If you freeze the guide and it won't go in , you better open up the hole in the head a bit. Lippy

Be very cautionary with CO2 or halon in enclosed areas. It replaces the oxygen in the air and I want us all to stay breathing.

I tried the Freeze spray on the guide in freezer, got it down to about -50° as the ice was forming on it. Hard to measure with ice building as fast as its wiped off but over all its about .0022 reduction in diameter. I am happy (brave too) with that. I got an old drill press I am going to ***emble to use as an Arbor press, like to have some "feel". One ice cream left, saving for when they are in!:D

Now you may have to coax the shop boss into the car but a trip to DQ drive through will get a free cup for the dog with meal order; I used to ask for a s**** so I could have some too!;)

Just curious. How will you be able to remove those guides if you ever needed to?

Are you going to warm the heads in an oven to create expansion to go along with the cold guides ?
Don't remember if you said you have a lathe or not. If you do, you could take a piece of steel rod and keep polishing it until its diameter lets it just slip into the guide. No cooling, but maybe warming the head. Once it will just slip in at room temp, mic it and you will see exactly how much difference exists between what you need and what you have. That way you don't destroy a guide or a head in the process.

Drill them out with a slightly smaller drill bit. Leave a small bit at the bottom not drilled to act as a shoulder to drive against with a punch. It relieves the pressure and they come out real easy.

I remember eons ago when I hung out at a garage/bodyshop/junkyard and was learning from a few "Mechanics" (? hesitate to call them "mechanics"). One really hot day, one of them wanted a cold soft drink and all they had were hot ones. He grabbed the fire extinguisher and made some cold Cokes......

She eats green beans off of a fork though we prefer to use a plastic one she will use metal and is very ginger. So the s**** for her ice cream would be a snap.

I ate the last ice cream. :) Guides are in. I opted to make a driver and tap them in to depth. In put guides in freezer and then hit with freeze spray, note, keep finger out of the spray. At minus 20° was comfortable, at plus 20° noticeable more effort required. Had more trouble removing the depth stop I made! Had to swear at the last install. Next is to size the guides, have to get more ice cream! Thanks!

I was wondering how this was going to turn out. Glad it worked out for you.
