Hey Del.. I just dug up this pic of Alton and Dutch...
    VonDutch-n-Alton-Gillespie-84.jpg
1984 Rat Fink Reunion! Did Alton ever tell you the story of how Ed talked him into letting everyone stripe his rental car at that party? Robert Williams was there too. What a hoot. It was the last time Dutch painted in public.

After crusiin' through Compton with the "baddest" car in town...
    altons-rental-RFR-84.jpg
They had to wash the whole thing down with gas before they returned it... go figure.

These are some of Alton's personal photos ... never published. For all of you who may not know, Alton Gillespie is the original designer and painter of the BLUE MAX funny car. He's a living legend.

    HAHAHAAAA I LOVE it!!

Kafka's style is borderline arts and crafts. That's not bad, it's just VERY distinctive. The low rider crowd rules because of this guy's striping!!

    •Slow (Phx)
    •Steve Stanford (EL-LAY)
    •Rody from Denver
    •Jack and Jack Jr. Honse(spl.?!)
•Jeff Styles (nicest guy you may ever meet)
    •Don Varner (panel jobs!!!!!)
    •Don Bolin (bad-ass striper)
    •Dave Bell
•Ron Hernandez (just a Mexican from Phx, hahaa)
    •Len Szymanski (ElPolacko's DADDY)
•Tony Perez (another Mezzkin, great work)
•Butcher (stills scares the crap outta me)
    •Buggs (Phoenix. Holmes)
    Soooooooo many....

MOST of these guys are SUPER HUMBLE which ranks SUPER HIGH in my book!! (if you're a loud-mouth, you'd better be a funny loud-mouth)

My Dad tells me of a Phx. striper back in the 60's named Stats. Anyone hear of him?

Has no one mentioned John Hannakaine in Olympia, WA? He has a great style, but what stands out in my mind is one simple line around a tail light he had done that blew me away.

The line, which was a perfectly uniform 1/32", encircled a round '48 pontiac light with a perfect circle and exactly equa-distance from the light. That would have to be among the most difficult jobs for someone to do perfectly. May not sound like much, but try it sometime.

  6. This is some Von Dutch art that was done in 56. The guy hated the part on the cowl so much he ended up taking lacquer thinner to it

Didn't go through all the posts so I don't know if anyone mentioned "King Dave" Anderson from Tulsa. Dave passed on a couple years ago so I'm sure he's striping for a bigger guy right now. I lived across the street from him for 14 years. Great wood carver, painter, artist and sculptor.
Was also a great father to two daughters.

Laurie does some of the finest lines you will see anywhere.

  19. Has anyone heard of Mikey Ratt from San Diego. He was doing some striping at a swapmeet/ show a couple of weeks ago. Real nice guy, seemed pretty talented too.

    Heres his Myspace link...
