A little help please: SBC with HEI, no spark.... I have been moving a car in and out of the garage each night while I work on another project. Tonight I went to start that car and it will crank but will not fire. Getting plenty of fuel Getting 12 volts to the HEI which drops to about 9 or 10 when cranking. Getting 12 volts to the two prongs that plug into the HEI module with the key on. but no spark at the spark plugs. Thanks in advance.
Ironically, I was given a spare module, a cap, and a rotor at an event last year. I cleaned the cabinet last week and almost threw it away? I guess I will throw that module on it and try again.
Yes, I checked the wires running to the HEI and there are 12 volts I checked the wires going to the base of the Hei and there are 12 volts and I checked the metal tabs going into the module under the cap of the HEI and there is twelve there
Get out your TEST LIGHT. Hook one end to the TACH terminal on the cap & the other end to a ground. Try to start the engine & observe the test light at the same time (you may need an assistant to do this). While thye engine is cranking the test light should flash on & off as the engine is cranking if the module is good. if it stays lit just dimming a little the module is toast. Also check the contact in the center of the dist.cap. Hope this helps. Billy
Thanks guys, I had a spare module new in the box....swapped it and it started right up. The Power of the Hamb!

[/ QUOTE ] I just put a spare module in my under seat toolbox, seemed like a good idea now that I saw this thread. Just a thought, what tools do you guys carry with you? A guy wanted to follow me to a show(4 hour drive) and I asked he had everything he needed? "Sure,2 folding chairs, lint free towels and Son of a gun tire dressing." I said what no wax? "No he said 3M makes a spray on wipe off product..." I shit you not! The guy had never drove the car more than 5 miles from home, never thought of a toolbox. Long story short..It got hot, puked its guts out on the side of the road. I did make good use of the lint free towels in the woods on the side of the interstate though!
tool box!?!?!?!? what the hell ya need a tool box for? yer NEW car doesn't come with one yeah, i carry one, and a tow strap and jumper cables(now a jump box). they come in usful on OTHER peoples cars. spare module and a ROTOR(they burn thru) ain't a bad idea. known-good dist is even better(long story)
hey glen, nice pic of yer daughter under yer name. she looks hungry, how about i feed her? big ol' polish sausage, maybe.

good plan for a guy that owns a Harley [ QUOTE ] yeah, i carry one, and a tow strap and jumper cables(now a jump box). they come in usful on OTHER peoples cars. spare module and a ROTOR(they burn thru) ain't a bad idea. known-good dist is even better(long story) [/ QUOTE ]
spare module and a ROTOR(they burn thru) ain't a bad idea If your rotor has burn through, check your plug wires. A bad wire usually causes the rotor to burn through. Don't ask me how I know, but it took me two rotors to finally change the wires..
carry the "rub" toolbox for that(cellphone) hog ain't got no distributor... hey, btw guys, stay away from "Wells" brand shit...
