One rule. $500.00 cash, non-refundable deposit to take it off the market for an agreed (in writing)upon number of days.

Well, two rules-If I'm going to discount my price, I do it after the guy hands me the cash (yes, it is hard to give a guy some of his money back, but interesting to watch their reactions). Don't worry, I learned from a group of people I dealt with to jack the price up a percentage over what I really wanted and then when you discount it, you are where you really wanted to be in the first place. Now, you do have to be realistic about what your bottom line is going to be.

But selling a car on the open market is still a pain in the ass.
