  1. LOL that's usually on the outside and a can of rustolium will fix that until next weekend. :D

Good to know, I can buy ceramic and glass easily enough. I really don't want to use latex. Considering tractor enamel, or auto based paint. Plan to spray from an undercoating gun.

So far. 1 gallon of beads to 1 gallon of paint, I can thin some to spray. Mix ceramic and glass equally. Any other thoughts

Lobuckrod is still a Alliance vendor. Just got a shipment from him. Good service and prompt delivery to Canada.

Hope it works as well as everyone said.

Lizard skin to seal, lobuckrod's product for heat control. That has been my experience.

    More Technical info...
To make you own you need to use a specific type of 3m microsphere. Using hobby store stuff will NOT work.

    For Heat use 3M K1, k15, or k20 microspheres.

For Sound use 3M K42HS microspheres

    As a base
Sherwin Williman or other brands have exterior Acrylic Latex paint in a variety of colors that can be used.
You can use almost any base, the micropheres offer the heat or acoustic properties.

    Application:
Spraying is highly recommended. The micospheres are fragile, brushing can damage them and cause clustering which diminishes there effectiveness.

    Mix ratio:
Unknown to me. Can be estimated by visual comparison. I've contacted 3M for suggested mix ratios however they have not returned my call or email yet.

Has this been tested to see if it works? Just curious. I tried it with the hobby stuff and you are correct, it made absolutely no difference. I was bummed.

  8. Eleven years ago, I used Coolcar which was the predecessor to LS on a 53 Chevy pickup. We drove the truck for about 1500 miles before dissassembely. It had nothing on the floor and firewall. The cool car and a layer of cheap carpet made a lot of difference in sound control. It wasn't driven for a long enough distance to know if the heat management was better. Lack of info on both parts. My 32 has homemade ceramic insulation, 2 layers of lowbuc and 1 layer of Ram audiomat and rubber floor covering. On a hundred degree day running down the highway for more than 50 miles, heat is still a problem. After reading this, I wonder if my homemade stuff helped in sound control and nothing else. The 51 truck I finished up months ago has a layer of thermotec and lowbuc insulation covered with dynadeck. It hasn't made a 100 degree run yet. Maybe by next week I'll have something to add to this thread. :)
