I remember watching it after school around 1962 on black and white TV with rabbit ears! Had to twist them ears just right to get it. Kids dance show. Pretty much the same as the **** Clark show.
Hello, If you watch some old shows, someone asks him a question about slang surfing terms that weren't always nice. But, as that portion was shown, he stumbles and the audience knew the answers, but he did not. It was a moment in the So Cal series where live was not always good. Despite the wannabee status, it was a local So Cal show and many folks watched it for the described type of boo-boos that were approved by the so called sensors. Even they did not know about So Cal surfing circle slang that was mostly inappropriate. But, they did not even use the one second off set to allow the studio person to delete or freeze the offensive comment. They thought it was ok, because, the sensors did not know if it was offensive or not. So, thousands of So Cal locals got a big laugh at the expense of TV shows that tried to cater to the audience. The surf inspired style was just hitting the stores and popularity. So, of course, the show had to be "up" on the information. But, they weren't... He tried to be a knowledgeable about the lifestyle that also included hot rods, but also did not do it justice other than it was on TV. Jnaki But, they did not do anything other than allow slang to be put on the show for everyone that knew, a giant laughing moment.
We used to rush home from school so my sister could watch the show. Me, not so much. Live from Aquarama was way better because it featured a lot of up and coming local groups. Used to be on along with "Where the Action Is" featuring Paul Revere and the Raiders. Hated the Monkees! Mom always left my sister control the TV. The best was Double Chiller Theatre at midnight Saturdays. Cl***ic horror pics, two per night. Not bad for only three channels and you had to go outside and move the antenna for channel 3.
I remember Lloyd Thaxton... We used to get the show 'way up North in Santa Clara. I remember Ravi Shankar (reminded me of penile sores older men got from having times with fallen women) Ravi mystified everybody with his sitar, that Genie bottle thing with the long guitar like neck...Middle Eastern stuff, like John and Yoko got into later on, with their 'mystic knowledge of all things'. Anyway, Lloyd got ahold of a sitar, and was 'mouthing' a recording and strumming this sitar like a Gibson! Never laughed so hard in my life.
Like jnaki…I watched him in the 60’s here in SoCal…. I really don’t remember it being very good but what’s a teenager to do…
Lloyd Thaxton, how do you forget a name like that? The show was a copy cat, but what are you going to do when you only get 3 channels?!
