man, that's sad. I talked to that guy (if it's the same one) years ago when he was still in the "dreaming" stage of the project. Sad to see a dream like that go up in smoke. Maybe this would be a good time for someone smarter than me to start a good thread on shut off switches and general safety regarding electric fuel pumps. (although there probably is one already. I haven't done a search yet). Either way, resurrecting any old related threads may be in order.

    Sad, sad news.

Actually, most reputable shops will have coverage for vehicles in there care, custody and control. Usually its an amount per vehicle with a cap for all vehicles. Lets say no more than $250k for all vehicles at any one time. This is not always the case so ask before.

My shop covers the vehicles with in it. Its just part of doing business.

  7. Does he have mustache, dark hair? If so I think I saw him driving this car up Western Ave on the Chicago North side about a month ago. That's sad news.

  8. Man, that sucks. But, cars can be rebuilt or replaced. I'm glad his buddy wasn't the one who burned up. Still I hate it for the guy. From Roadster.com's pics it looked like a dead on clone or maybe even better. Does anybody know where Bob Falfa was that night?

Something like this is a life changing event. I lost a perfect '32 2dr and over $25,000 in parts to a fire that was arson (started by the owner of a storage building I was renting) to collect insurance to cover losses his sorry ass incurred being stupid. There is nothing to describe looking over the total distruction of something you've poured your heart and soul into.
As neat a personality and cheerful outlook Denise has you should see her describe the loss of her Chevy. She still fights back tears when recounting the event. You just NEVER get over it. Insurance money is almost an insult.

Sorry to hear about Steve's coupe.

He was really excited about building it.

When it was finished, he couldn't wait to take it to it's first show.

    Sad, sad loss.

on any eighties honda with a carb, there is a safety switch for the electric pump, it's a box with four terminals, these can be adapted to ANY car with an electric pump. you have four terminals, power from the ignition circuit, ground, power out to the pump, and a wire that connects to you coil negative terminal. any time the engine stops, the box detects no ignition pulses, and cuts power to the pump. when you are starting the car, the coil pulses are enough to get fuel to the carbs. these can also save you in an accident if you get hit hard enough to stall the engine, the pump automatically shuts off. I know you guys hate these cars, but this is a very useful part that can work on a rod as well. the only concern i would have,is if you have a high current draw pump, you may have to use a relay at the pump output of the box. this would also conect to your ignition so the igntion shuts off the pump. I like the ignition cut outs better then the oil, because it can take time for the oil pressure to bleed off enough to shut off the pump that way. also no plastic lines, they are nice to look at, but no protection. the best thing to use is braided line with firebraid. not only will it delay a fuel line melting, it also looks like it means buisness.

Thats Brutal. I know first hand how hard parts are to find to build a coupe that is close to the real thing. If he needs any help finding parts tell him to drop me a line and I will do what I can. Hey guys with "Graffitius" gotta stick togther.

Even if the shop has no insurance on the specific cars, they DO have a negligence policy that WOULD cover the car if it were proven that they were somehow negligent in their care of the car that caused the loss.

I had duel points in my flat head. One set broke causing a back fire that blew out the intake gaskit the flame melted the plastic oil guage line. The engine stayed running on the outher set of points. The oil line worked like a flam thrower lighting a shelf with books on fire. When i put it back togeather i used a copper line.
