What ups guys..im new and been lurking on here for a while. But i just bought a 52 chevy truck that has been sitting for 15+ years and im trying to get the motor running. Its locked up. Ive use a bar on the crank but nothing. So i took the plugs out and put marvel mystery oil in the cylinder and let it sit. The owner said it ran when he parked it.......lol i believe the guy b/c he's a good friend of mind and he didnt want to sale the truck i kinda heckled him for it. Im i wasteing my time or should i wait a week or so or just go order a rebuild kit for it. lmk awesome site btw! PAINT BRUSH JOB FTW!!
Might want to see if you can find another engine for it. also run the numbers on the engine and see what it is, often they get swapped out for a later engine.
Everyone has their own brew for freeing a stuck engine. I'd load it with PB blaster just because it can be sprayed around inside if a piston is at TDC, but either way when you load it up put the plugs back in loose, it keeps the stuff from evaporating. If it really is a 216 they have like a ribbed valve cover held on by a couple bolts through the center. I wouldn't rebuild it only because you can go to a full-pressure oiling 235 motor or even a 261 out of a later truck fairly cheap - I've seen complete vehicles with running later sixes sell for under $500 a number of times.
If its a 216 trash it for a 235. If you do want to rebuild it take it apart and take all the oil water ect out of the piston chambers and pour in wd40 and let it sit. Then tap the pistons on the top with a wooden stick and hammer. If it doesnt work after 3 or 4 weeks trash it. I had the same problem with a 235 i got with an overbore but it was stuck. I did it like mentioned abouve and its not stuck any more. God luck
thank guys....its a 216 for sure but i seen a 235 in a local junk yard i may jump on. Its only $150 bucks. I know its not locked up b/c i can turn the crank by hand. Would that 216 tranny work on the 235?
Yeah, the back of the engines are the same. But look at the water pump and front mounts...those are the problem areas
