I need a new dipstick and tube for a 727 Torqueflite transmission, and am trying to decide between the firewall mount or the transmission mount. I know how the firewall mount would be installed, but I am not sure about the transmission mount. It looks like it would bolt to one of the bell housing bolts. The engine is a 340. Has anyone installed the transmission mount tube? Also, any tips for installing in the transmission - I have heard they can be super hard to slide into the hole. Thanks.

Get a stock type and bend if needed for clearance.

Lokar dipsticks look like hell and take 1/2 hour per quart to fill.

Why draw attention to something that you dont want to see?

I wanted to go with a stock dipstick, but I have not been able to find one. Thats why I was thinking about Lokar. The current dipstick / tube is the incorrect one. The tube is 22 inches long, and the dipstick is only 18 1/4 inches long. I checked at the local Mopar dealer (no help) and have been calling junk yards. I can find all kinds of TH350's and 400's, but no Torqueflites. I was going to cut down the current tube, but I want to be as accurate as possible. I don't want to overfill it (again).

  4. If you use the little piece of shit funnel that comes with the Lokar, it suck to fill the trans. If you lose the funnel, as most do, then it SUCKS to fill the trans.

Thanks for all the information. I found a stock unit at Mancinni Racing and ordered it. I have heard that filling the trans with a Lokar is a pain, and I agree that a stock one will look better. I ordered the black instead of chrome, so it won't show as much. The engine and tranny are in a 1955 Dodge C1 truck, and I want to keep the engine compartment nice and clean.

If you can find a way to use your stock trans filler use it, the Lokar one leaks, sucks to fill, leaks as you fill it, sux to get in and out of the hole mounts like dookey, annnnd costs a lot of money, and I like lokar products stuff, most of it is great. I had no choice.

I think typing lokar here on the HAMB should shut down your computer for the rest of the day.

I put a POS Loker on my C4 that's in my '36. Not only does it take a day to fill, it is impossible to read...

It's easy enough to make a dipstick that is accurate and functional out of the pieces you have laying around. I'd do that and save the money Loker is going to steal from you.
