Im not sure the*****on will push in but is real slow coming out, you can grab the handle and pull it straight back into gear. I cant see into the tunnel through the boot enough to know whats exactly going on.
Just a kind of random FYI, B&M offers a streetrod (dirty word, I know) shifter that has a nice solid chrome handle, just change out the knob to something a whole lot less billet and its a decent looking shifter. I used a typical hurst 4 speed boot on it and I love it. Heres a pic, but it still has that lame knob on it here...
I had a Lokar in my coupe, i took it out and made a frizbee outa it straight into the trash can........now i have a Gennie Shifter........mucho better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get it fixed QUICK, check out this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=340213&highlight=im+sick
wow ..everytime i see this about the lokar shifters i wonder if i just got 3 good ones.. Or if its because the ones i read about on here not working correctly, is because they are not set up right? Or if the directions for installation were followed to the T? I know once installed I had to adjust them per the directions..but after that, and plenty of completely satisfied miles..absolutly no problems..and not just one install..3 I have done on 3 seperate vehicles. what Trans? what style..trans mounted? or tunnel Mounted? just curious... did you read and understand the directions ..? completely? I can pull down on mine when it is in park..and running and if i dont depress the*****on..it will not come out of park..you might also need to check your linkage adjustment..it might not be adjusted correctly..dont be too quick to blame the shifter.
I dont think this was due to the shifter..it's seemed it was more of a C4 problem..they like to slip out of park even with stock shifters.
C4's were known to have issues with this problem even with the OEM shifters on them..and to add a (possibly ) poorly adjusted aftermarket shifter on it..could exasterbate the problem..or mask an unknown issue..I wouldnt be quick to blame the shifter knowing the C4's drop out of park history until you know for sure its not the trans..than it could be as easy as getting the Locar adjusted correctly and bingo problem solved.. My experiance with Lockars is on 700r4's and Th350's..so far im batting 100% I plan on buying the swan , or S type 30" or longer for my A..
I have install sheet for the Lokar Nostalgic 24" auto shifter. I can scan and send if you would like???? PM me.
oh yeah i wouldnt be quick to discount the abilities of the C4..its a good trans..it had some issues as most do..im sure it can be fixed..(if that turns out to be your problem ..or the source of the park to reverse drop issue) I would look into that first before even trying to mask it with shifter adjustments..just so you are positive you dont have that issue. than move on to the shifter adjustments per installation directions. there might be a kit for that C4 to keep it from mis-behaving too
I couldnt tell you..not a big ford guy..but if your not into trans work..I would suggest you take it to someone who knows the C4 and how to work on them. im sure they could get you on the right track...i would ask the guy how many hes done and if he knows how to deal with that quirk.. and just in case it is your shifter and not the trans..you will know with out second guessing the safety of putting your car in park , and finding it where you put it last, when you come back out to get in it..if you know what i mean? especially if it was left running in park ..like while you open up the garage door..and turn around to see it flying across your neighbors lawn into their front porch!
I had a Jokar*****er, took it out and put in a B&M I had on the shelf left over from the '70s works good, looks better too.
mine was sticky too, i took the knob off and took it apart, i put anti-sieze on the teflon bushing for the*****on, put it back together and it works perfect.......
