  2. Well, the tourism people must love you! Thanks for the honesty. My lil bro was living in the area but has since moved to Houston. Guess I will let him come visit here instead. ;)

Makes me want to reconsider lol.
From searching on here, 10 years ago the Austin Motel was the place to stay, people lined up new years day to get a room. Seems to have changed as they have a ton of rooms available.
Is South Congress that much of a gong show that weekend, that it's not worth staying in the area?
Everything I can see online says its a safe enough area of town, or at least not as bad as a lot of areas.
Kind of seems like not much for buzz around the show, not much on social media, hasn't been added to the forum events, where it has its own sub form. Actually I don't even think there's a single other post about it in the last year.

South Congress is safe, these guys must all be old geezers to say all that dumb stuff. Yes it's over run with hippies, so what, yes there's homeless, where isn't there any homeless people. I'm not one to defend Austin, because I live south of Austin in San Antonio. There's a lot of people on South Congress walking up and down the street, there are a lot of bars, restaurants and shops. Please don't listen to these people. Come down, have fun, stay at the Austin Motel, I couldn't afford to stay there, but if I could I totally would, you'll be right in the middle of the action and close to the Continental Club.

I would not hesitate a minute to bring my little kids down there. Wouldn’t worry about it.

Congress cruising did seem pretty congested and it wasn’t just old hot rods, which is why I suggest all the shop parties. Fun either way. I know it had been rescheduled a few times so I’m sure it’s all just part of the curve of getting back to things that we haven’t seen much.

I want to say I’ve seen some pre registration highlife posts on IG?

I’d imagine after the last few years that the show would be enormous. I think @TexasSpeed has got a roadster thrash trying to make the show this year

South Congress was fine. My 13 year old son survived two nights of walking it and eating dinner there when we went a few years ago. I'm just too cheap to stay in a hotel there, and like to sleep somewhere quiet... I live in the woods normally.:D

Yea, I took my 2 boys up and down Congress starting when they were less than 2 years old. I never worried about it or ever felt like I wasn’t safe. Heck, we even hung out at the parties at South Austin Speed Shop back when they were in a different location. It has been several years since I was there, but can’t imagine that I would worry about it now either (partly because my boys are now 16 and 17 and bigger than me.) :D My oldest wants to go again this year, but I am just not sure I want to fight the Austin traffic. Otherwise, I love the area and the show.
