Hmmm, Vintage wagons, a practical custom car choice. I love mine and have done many 1000+ mile road trips in it. 1962 Mercury Monterey with a 352 FE, AOD, AC, Air Ride, Power Steering, etc. Look at it this way, a trip down to your local "car" dealership will net you with some ugly, grey colored, hy-bred, soccer mom inspired tupperware torpedo of an SUV and a $1000 per month payment for the next 5 or 6 years. Can you take $1K a month and restore a quality Craiglist find into a proper mile eater? My money says you can. The only downside, with that much gl***, even a cooler for a walk in freezer can't keep up during the Missouri Summer!
Wagons are better than vans. It like a tri-plex at a drive in, back seat pays for snacks, rear deck pays admission, owner gets the loge bench upfront and pays for gas. These days that may not be such a sweet deal!
Dude, I have had 3. I had my 56 Chevy Bel Air 9 p***, my 1957 Ford Country Sedan and a 63 Chevy II. My advice is stay with a full frame car. My Chevy 2 drove like a cheap car, even after all the suspension upgrades. I love wagons. I am always on the look for another one. With you getting into the off road stuff, I would look into a Willys wagon. Put a late model drive train and ch***is under it.

I had enough of cars I could only tool around town in and not take on an actual trip with the dogs, bags etc. so I bought this sled from the cl***ifieds here and have been having a blast with it! Long live the wagons!
