Hot Rods Long term ownership

I have had the Falcon 50 years and the F100 48, both 65 models. Initial investment $700 for the car and $600 for the truck.

 

42 yrs on my 57 Chevy wagon, 25 yrs on the 40 standard

 

What a Pair!

 

I've had my 48 Plymouth convertible for 45 year now, since I was 17. I don't plan to ever part with it. Here is a pic from my high school graduation:

 

Wow , one thing certain about car guys .....we all love our cars as they have become a big part of our lives . My 67Nova SS has been with me for 48 years. First car I restored as a young fella and first car I painted done in 99L black lacquer . I went to the local Chevy dealer every payday for nos parts ...I was proud and entered it in World of Wheels and it did well. I put it away as I moved along in my quest for cool Chevies . Last drove it in 79. Hoping to get back to it now being retired. I guess it about time...lol. My 62 Corvette I have had since 87.

I've technically only owned it for about 3 years, but my dad has had it since '75 and I always thought of it as mine I have a kinda O/T car which is the second one I ever got, had it for 20 years. Neither of them are going anywhere, ever. The concept of a "keeper" is weird to me, as I usually sell something 6-months to a year after I'm done with it (if we make it that far!) but it's growing on me.

40 years

Don't really remember when I actually bought this one, sometime back in the nineties. It was stored away for many years before I started on it.

I also have an off topic Ford Fairlane hardtop my dad left me in 1985 that he bought new in 1967

 

My 40 Ford 20 years, 70 Chevelle 28 years, and 63 Dodge 5 years.

 

I have a 1934 Buick serries 40 three window coupe that I have had for 48 years. Still is not on the road.

 

Bought this one at 16 in 1990. Repainted in 1992 after an accident. Redid the seats and carpet over the years. Ran a Muncie in it for the first 20 years, then upgraded to a Tremec 12 years ago. Had a 307 when I got it, upgraded to 350, then 396, then 427, to 454 for a lot of years, drag raced it quite a bit, blew that up and built a nice driver 427 that's in it now. Been everywhere from 2.73 to 4.56 rear gears, been happy with 3.55's for some time now.

My son's Model A........bought the body 28 years ago.....build took 3 years.....

 

I've had my chopped and channeled 29 Ford roadster with the nailhead, turbo 400 and Champ quick change for 56 years.

 

Great to see the pics and to hear the stories. Something that I'm taking away is that it's important to buy a car that you really want, as it is, or to maybe fix up some time in the future. I really has to be something that you want, even if it's a financial sacrifice, or you have to buy a rougher car and build it over time. I've never been a guy to build up an emotional attachment to a car, and there were never cars in my family that I wanted to have handed down to me. I kept one of my motorcycles that I bought new in '77 for twenty plus years. My longest ownership is with the two new Fords I bought in 2007. I still have the truck but gave the Mustang to my Daughter. I've had my '96 Mustang for 12 years so far. Keep the stories coming.

 

My grandfather gave me his 1937 Ford pickup in 1963. I bought my 47 Mercury in 67, we got the 1950 Ford mild custom that year. My father bought our 1966 Chrysler convertible in 71. And course I still have them all plus grandpas 1940 Farmall tractor and his 1954 Ford. I've been driving my 59 Ford for 21 years, my 1960 F100 for 21 years and my 57 chevy for 37. I started driving my 35 and 39 Ford pickups in 1992 and my avatar for more than 22

 

I've had the Fairlane twenty one years and my off topic Plymouth thirty five years.

 

I’ve had my 55 Chevrolet pickup since 1989, when I was 15 years old. I went through the truck again in the late 90’s, since then it has just gone through some wheel and tire changes. The next move will be an interior that has no tweed in it.

I bought my '57 when I was 17, that was 1975. Since then it has been painted twice and one frame-off completed in 2001. In order: photo from 1975, just painted (fall 2000) with my brothers truck, first car show after rebuild (9-9-01), and a re-visit to a photo location (avatar) back in 1977.

 

My avatar was purchased in 1954 by my Dad. That makes it 68 years in the family. Plan on having it until I pass, then it goes to my son. There have been and are others but this one is for a lifetime.

Dad bought the 56 in 1970. Was given to me for my first car when I turned 16. Hasn't been on the road for 2 decades plus. Now started a full build including new frame and 4 door conversion. Many many memories in this ol girl!

 

I got my 34 ford 5 window in 78. got it on the road in 85. It has 76 K on the clock. I've had my 49 Ford F 1 on the road for 10 years or so. Still have several other projects waiting .
