Hi Guys, It's been a long time since I've visited,I got side tracked on another project and the Lincoln sled got side lined, but my other vehicle a 1943 white half-track is basically finished and I got out a blew the dust off the zephyr the other day, part of the reason I got side tracked was because I got stuck on what to do with the rear fenders on the Lincoln, it's a 47 Zephyr sedan that I have chopped the top on, 4 inches at the windshield 6 1/2 at the C pillar, I have the front end almost done,I'm using the original axle with 73 1/2 ton ford spindles, the rear is a 75 Mk 4 9 inch with disc, mechanicals are the easy part for me, visualizing those rear fenders has been kicking my butt, I'd love to graft some 55-56 caddy lights on them but I just don't have a caddy handy to cut up, I also thought of using tail lights from the 85-93 caddy and making some long sloping fenders, but I just can't see it, so if anyone has a picture of a 42-48 lincoln with a customized rear end I would love to get some ideas, unfortunately you just don't see many of these get customized, but fall is here and I can finally slow down on the weeds and other outdoor stuff and get back into the shop, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. This might be a good example of a bad example Or How NOT to customize the rear of a Lincoln. I think it would be cool just to keep what's there but maybe exdent the fender 2-3 inches making them a little more fin like but keeping everything else stock (ie tail lights) I would love to see some pics of what you've done..... Show us please.
The thing that I don't like is the way the fenders don't follow the flowing body lines, especially with the chopped top, the trunk line was lowered about 4 inches, I had originally planned to split the fender down the middle and remove a pie section then french in the 85-93 caddy lights, tilted forward so the lights had more flow, but I don't know if I want that sharp of a fender line,I wish I knew how to photo shop, but here's where I'm at now. I forgot to ad that I'm not using the original bumper, I have a set of 55 Pontiac front bumperettes and the rear over ride bar from the same car, together they make a beautiful rear bumper.
The green one I posted said it was chopped 3" and Sectioned 3". If you look at how thick the hood is you can see the difference the sectioning makes. The Sectioning makes it look more like the hood on the Continentals. The 56 Caddy taillights might look good with the Pontiac Bumper, but I don't know how they'd look in the Lincoln fenders. You'd have to reshape the top of the fender a lot to get it to flow into the peek of the Caddy light. Maybe a pair of 54 Merc lights. I bet they will flow better with what you've got. Or how about a 49 Buick tail light.
I had thought about sectioning the body but after seeing that green car I'm glad I didn't, he also did a straight chop, which in my opinion makes a weird roof line, and the back door window looks bigger then the front door, my roof line slopes all the way back, which makes the fenders seem too bulky and they just don't flow, I like the fender lines on that buick, the way they flow with the trunk line, beside when I get this done I don't want people to be readily able to know just what I started with, I like different and unusual, which is why I started with this car, so far I am very pleased with the new roof line,I had started with a straight chop but after looking at it for over a week I just didn't like the way it looked, so I slowly slid the trunk section up into the roof section till the roof line once again flowed.
