I have been admiring the projects on this forum for years and have decided its time to get started. Im open to projects from the 50's to 70's, but before starting I am looking for advice. I have done moderately difficult maintenance stuff on vehicles models newer then 1990 with the help of manuals and the internet, but have had zero training. My plan is to get a runner to learn upon. However, my eventual goal is a full restoration like many have done here because I want to. What are the basic skills, training, or knowledge one should get before diving in deep? Would a night cl*** on auto mechanics, welding, and the like be truly beneficial to a self learner like me? Are there good books to get on the subject of restoration that would take the place of a formal cl***? Or are vehicles from the 50's to 70's mostly doable (less engine rebuild and transmissions) by shop manuals and these forums? After basic mechanics tools, air compressor, jacks and jackstands, what tools are beneficial or essentials? I know there are bunch of questions there, but I am trying to get some good nuggets of wisdom before my ambition exceeds my current abilities. Thanks in advance!
