If Jay leno has one and the local has 5 then the one that was on ebay from somewhere on the east coast a couple years ago must be the last one,I called his wife and gave them the info but dont know if they tried to get it. Jeff
Those wouldn't look half bad if the roof's weren't so high. Section that roof and you might just have something there.
I sold the Dayton folks #7 of 7 a couple of years ago and was the only car with 2-fours and batwing aircleaner. Babyblue in color with woodgrain trim but no woodgrain. Original owner - Earl Gamble (Procter & Gamble). The one on EBAY was a '56 and the black one listed belongs to the Dayton folks not Jay Leno. #5 car is still missing and I have followed it to Detroit area in the'70s but lost track.Could be wadded up in a junk yard or in some collection somewhere.
I think this one actually looks better. I prefer the 4 doors and the extra length. But, I agree, maybe a mild chop on the roof would be perfect. The glass looks straight, so might be pretty easy. That's a cool car. Actually wouldn't mind having one of those and I am not really into wagons or hearses for sure.
--------------------------------------------------- Jim After the first of year when the shoebox is done I've got alot of ideas for that next project. T.C.
Here is what my car looked like new (same color even). I plan on going mild with it (472 power, bags, some de-chroming).
Man, I thot that "lightning bolt" piece of chrome was someone's weird idea of gooking up a Caddy...and then I see it was the factory that gooked it up...that'd be the first thing I took off...!!! R-
Cool wagons for sure. I pulled this one out of a barn where it has been sitting for the past 17 years. It has been owned by the family since the mid 1960s. They have decided to sell it at the Gooding and Company Auction this January (http://www.goodingco.com/scottsdale09.html not pictured in auction preview). The firm I work for is preparing the car for the auction and babysitting it until then I LOVE LOVE LOVE this car and wish I could buy it. They are estimating it to go for $70-$90,000 though a little to deep for my pockets at this time in life The car was built by Hess and Eisenhardt of Cinci, Ohio (they are mentioned above). It was orginally ordered by and sold to the man that owned Central Cadillac in Cleveland, Ohio. It is believed that he had an earlier one (possibly like the '55 pictured above) and his wife loved it so much he ordered a run of them in 1960. I've been told there were either 5 or 10 made (personally I believe 5) and he got two of them. He kept one for his wife, this one, and sold the other thru the dealership. His wife drove the family in the car for four years or so at which time he sold the car to my client's grandparents. They then passed the car to her father and now to her and her siblings. The car is has a very interesting build. We believe the roof is Buick and are for sure that the rear tailgate is. It is neat how chopped the back windows look. The interior is stock Cadillac in black with carpet and accessory pockets in the back. The wood on the side isn't wood but rather vinyl stickers. The pieces of wood surrounding the panels are metal with a sticker or paint covering it. I'm happy to be its caretaker, even if it is just for a little while!
Nice, but that would look better with the wood removed from the sides. It's doesn't flow with the car.
OMG! WOW, you are right! Good eyes! This could solve some big mysteries! Jay Leno owns this one, right?
I got this missing one!!... Interesting fact and stroke of genius the wagons were made on the short deck so the rear windows are in proportion..... My one was sold new in Beverly hills. It features saber spoke wheels. I met Pete Stengel and he was a very interesting chap, what he Didn,t know about the Detroit automotive royalty........................... note; the worlds first luxury suv.
Both those Caddy Wagons (the original poster and the 60) are just ultra cool. I would drive either one of those just like they are and be happy.
It belongs to Wayne here in Dayton Oh.I gave Wayne a 4 track player for one of his cars but it wasn't one of the wagons.
That 60 is beautiful. I'd like to see it without the wood and roof rack and maybe a few inches lower.
