Ive been over at the shop a few times a week watching this thing come together. Slag made this thing from scratch. Why? Cause he wanted it to fold flat, level to the floor of the channeled bed. Its only 3/4 of an inch thick and yet has a lit frenched plate with a removable cover, frenched 48 Chevy taillights with standard bulbs (not LED's) . The hinges are stainless with bronze bushings and the cables and latches are all hidden. The cable is ****ing auto retracting, hidden in tubing welded into the bed frame. Is this type of behavior normal?
I made a little more progress on the tail gate last night. in side skin is all cut and ready to glue on. need to finish hammer and dolly work before it gets glued on. the wiring harness for the lights is all done shrink wrapped and bullet connectors installed. just need to change how the cable mounts. i dont like how in the open position it puts a small kink in the cable.
cables mount to the tail gate on a clevis with set screws. the cable ends where brazed and filed so they can come apart and go back together with out it fraying. Inside the bed channel there is a bolt drilled to adjust for a cable stop. later today ill take some better pictures of the cable ends and constant tension springs for the cable returns
