Wow, what a turd. I don't see why people do that to a Merc, let alone one with some history. Why couldn't they start with an ex-cop Caprice or something.....

Does anyone have a more recent pic of the Bailon style version?. The one where Mr. Merc had painted those wheel well ribs in white? I thought it was chopped recently. The new owner has also taken those rectangular wheel well ribs off of the fender?? Yea, what a shame.

Guess I'm the only one that doesn't find Bailon's stuff appealing.

Yeah, Seymour, but just because you don't think Mona Lisa is pretty, is no reason to paint a mustache on her!!!!!
    That's just plain butchery!

Very true... that's why if I ever bought a car that was an old built custom, I'd better like everything about it or I ain't buyin it... I hate when ppl chg **** on old cars to suit their tastes. One of the many would be the orig Hirohata merc.

Are you sure that is the same car?

If so, the new owner went to alot of trouble to undo the work on the front fenders' insets, and maybe the hood lip, as well.

If it is the same car, I hope he saved the grille and tube bumpers, so if he ever comes to his senses he can put it back the way it was.

  18. Nope. You can add me to that camp. I never did like his style. Too busy for me.

im not conviced its the same car. its clearly chopped in riksters photo, now its not! i think some one took the ugly nose of the bailon car and replced it, and this monkey ended up with it and changed it a bit..but i was wrong one other time so it could happen again i guess

The changes to the Bailon car that Mr. Merc had happened a few years back. I heard about it a couple years ago. There used to be a web site showing the remake of the car after Sterling sold the car. It made me sick. I cannot find the site now. The comment that I remembered on the site was how ****py the bodywork was. I thought that was a cheap shot by the person doing the remake. I saw the car a few years back in Sterling's shop and it was still very presentable.

I first saw the car at a show in Fargo back in the 80's. That was the last version of it when Sterling owned it. Had the gold leaf front. I was not into Merc's at the time but that car made an impression on me. Not that I thought it was the greatest car but what a custom really is. The interior as much as the outside.

While Sterling owned it there were changes made to the car, chopped and paint, but it didn't change the "theme" of the car. When it went to the current condition it changed the soul of the car. The car originally had a custom interior of barrel seats and such which was replaced with tweed. The changes to the exterior can be seen in the picture. The history of the car is gone. It may not have been to everyone taste but it did have history.

Sterling told me that parts of the interior were saved and are displayed at a museum. Someone probably knows where. The shop that removed the interior really trashed it.

I am not sure that the 1st picture is the same car either but it did get rebuilt to a car that looks like it. The chop looks different to me but as I remember it the front end was changed to what is in the picture. Neal

I didn't much like that car to begin with, 'cept the fender cut-outs, but didfn't that car ALWAYS have a Not For Sale At Any Price sign on the rear quarter windows forever?

It wasn't attractive before but now it's just uglier than hell.
