First off, I lost the water pump gasket on my 53 on the way back from the Lead Sled Spectacular, but we limped home ok, thanks to Bar's Leaks. :)

Today's problem, I have a recently purchased 55 desoto fireflight on a too tall trailer. I thought I could drive it off onto the dock at the warehouse, but the bumper hits too soon.

I am needing some 10 foot ramps to use for about 10 minutes. I should have tried harder to buy the ramps we used to load it, but I was sure the dock would work. Over 800 miles of driving in the last 4 days and I am stuck in the front yard.

If you are in the area, please give me a call 913-636- seven779 (cell) or 816-763-2829 (home)

    Thanks,

    David

Jen and I looked for you guys on Sat. afternoon at the KKOA event........but, we sorta' arrived late and left early......with the rain about to hit and Saturday being Jen's birthday.

You might PM pork&beaner........or I can check with a guy at work on Monday afternoon. Have you guys tried to back the trailer in a big ditch and roll it off on the grass? Or stack boards (2X4's) under the tires to get the bumper up higher to not scrape?

I will give you a call this week.

Chris- We bailed out at about 3, it was too hot and we had a desoto to pick up. :)
This trailer is TALL, taller than any ditch we have near by. Of course, the desoto isn't road worthy right now. maybe tomorrow in the daylight it will make sense. It is also a 22' 5th wheel, so it isn't too easy to maneuver for this Rookie. I may just make a set out of 2x12 for future use.

Thanks, and I 'll be talking to ya soon

You might call a rollback to your location and have then offload it where you need it. Probably cheaper than lumber these days.

This what sort of what I was thinking. The other thing you might be able to do is go over to a towing company and pull into their yard and ask for help. They might cut you a helluva deal - or even help you out while laughing at you - just for pulling the car off of your trailer onto their rollback and then onto the ground for you.

Just a thought, and a $20 or so tip might go a long way too....

That is crazy......I work with a chump kid who's dad runs a tow truck..........and for him to bring the Model A coupe back to the Chateau.....it would have been around $30 to $40 bucks to haul it back home a couple of blocks.......I will get a phone number for you on Tuesday........

the rear bumper will hang up with the 5' ramps I have, but please tell me to try it again.
I'll just make a set for future use anyway.

porknbeaner has a dude with a rollback that lives across the street from him that might cut you a deal. Seriously.

Put the ground end of your ramps on 6X6 blocks . That should change the angle of attack enough ,and maybe a couple of 4Xs at the end of the ramps on the ground.

Back up to a hill, maybe? The 5' ramps would sit at a higher angle, and just might cut it...

Pull the tires off the trailer, raise the tongue as high as you can, and try to do it with the**** of the trailer near an incline.

Drive around and look for a long loading dock and try to get the trailer as close as you can to the, parallel to the dock. You might be able to drive the car off the side of the trailer at an angle. Or even find a loading dock with a better height than the one you were trying to use originally.

Or, roll up to a wrecker company lot and ask them if they can use their rollback right quick and see if they'll take $20 or something to offload it.

Back the trailer into the ditch at the side of a road. I've done this many times loading and unloading lawnmowers and motorcycles.

The trailer has a 22' long deck. it doesn't fit anywhere very easy. And the car has NO brakes. So it has to be off loaded close to home. Home is in the city, where brakes are real nice to have. Believe me, I tried the normal ways for hours, first.
