Love it, just like the rich farmers kids car back in the days. :)
Check the alternator fan belt, looks off on the bottom?

  13. The calender says March but i could have been fooled it was Christmas. The Mickey Thompson Super Scavenger showed up today. They were out getting coated in the factory finish. I cant wait to get them on the L-88. I might fire it up just to hear how they sound. These headers are the perfect accessory for my day two project. These bad boys are rare and hard to find. You can't imagine how hard I looked for a set of these. 20220318_202303.jpg

  14. I just found a nos set of thrush mufflers. I had a set on the car back in the day. These would tie the whole exhaust system together just like it was a long time ago.

So i got up early to get them on for a look. If this doesnt just scream late 60s then i dont know what does. They were certainly worth the time and aggravation. Now that its out of my system its time to jump threads and get the hemi in the chassis.

That engine is just beautiful. And the headers are the icing on the cake.

I recall my “How to hotrod Big Block Chevys” book, and those headers (at least the color) sure remind me of the engine in the cover.

Just saw this thread for the first time. What a stroke of luck, finding the 427 you wanted. It looks great in your chassis with the headers in place!

  22. The garter on the mirror is from my prom in 84. I still have the girl that wore it.

  23. It took some fooling around to get those headers on. I started on the passenger side. I found out the lower four head studs stuck up too high. I plugged the ports and spark plug holes and cut them off even with the nuts. Then the lower control arm bracket needed to be trimmed. I remember reading a old set of hooker directions that mentioned trimming this area. Then the starter was in the way and had to come off.
The drivers side was more fun. The big fitting for the oil pressure had to be removed along with the ball for the four speed cross shaft. The oil filter had to be removed. The engine had to be jacked up in the rear. The studs needed to be cut. The alternator and brackets needed to be removed. After it was bolted on i couldnt get the filter back on. The oil pan kicks out a little on the bottom. I loosened the header and it pulled out just enough to get the filter back on. Either i get a new pan or i put on a remote filter set up but im not going through that every oil change. A L-88 pan would also work if i could find one.

That falls under, never have headers coated until they have been trial fitted. ;)

  25. It didnt scratch them up. I was very careful. No need for a hammer either. Its easy to work on it with no body in the way. Slow and easy won the race.

  27. You know its getting a little bit over the top when your at the swap meet looking for a period correct old helmet. Nothing like accessorizing the lakewood roll bar. It will match the narrow Y- style harness thats going on the bar. This old helmet is the perfect color of the car. The bubble visor is the icing on the cake. These old helmets are becoming very collectable. I have never seen one like this. 20220611_152624.jpg 20220611_152618.jpg

  29. I stopped by a small swap meet sunday in milwaukee. I came home with these cool items. One harness is a Bobs Chutes. This has to be from the sixties. The nos lakewood is tagged 1980. These are both hard to find. At 15.00 for the pair it was easy to bring them home. 20220828_164553.jpg 20220828_164557.jpg
