Yes, this is what you need to do. NOW. Go to the DMV or DOT website and find the paperwork for what's called a landlord's title or a storage lien. You need proof that this sat on a guy's property unclaimed for more than 30 days. If you get this paperwork done, then even if the original owner does turn up, it ain't his anymore, legally.

I'm really serious that you need to do this right away before someone else makes a claim on it. If the first owner finds out and puts his claim on it, you could lose the car and get in big trouble for theft. Paperwork should be first on your list of things to do tomorrow.

Hell of a deal, though. Grab that Astro, too. They've got 10 bolt rears, good trannies, roof inserts (as already mentioned) they're worth good money in scrap iron (heavy) plus I've been told that the factory spare tires that come with them are pretty sweet looking.

Get on it, and make friends with the landlord that tipped you off. Tell him you're happy to haul anything away as long as he's willing to sign the legal paperwork. Who knows what you might find. He and his landlord buddies will have your phone ringing off the hook.

Great score, Cad Guy!! Makes me think of the millions of times I've thought "I wonder who that belongs to, just sittin' there like that..." and NOT made the effort to turn around and ask questions! Footwork pays off! You inspire me to bother folks in the future. You deserve it! Build it on the hamb! We want to see where you take this one!

thank god you turned around to ivestigate it shows you never know what people are planing to do with some things. P.S you might want to get a bill of sale made up and signed by the property owner so your not to blame for theft down the road

great find dude. i scored a free 52 chevy 4 door sedan with a seized 6 banger just by asking about it. i gave it to my uncle for a birthday present because he lets me park some stuff in his yard & he helps me out with a lot of stuff. i already have too many cars that arent finished so i called him up & said,"hey, if youre home ill be down to give you your birthday present in a few minutes" he said "ok, sounds good" he had no idea what it was. then i came up in my chrysler with a rollback with the 52 on it. "there it is!" he nearly shit himself. hes been working on it since then.

Squablow's 100% right, don't rest on your laurels, you free car getting asshole, you suck. Really get cracking on it, because you might lose it.

FWIW, I put a lien on a '64 Galaxie that was left on our property for 3 weeks and on the day of the hearing I got to the courtroom 5 minutes late and the owner got to get his car back. It was my fault, I coulda had that car.

    Sorry...had to fix that.
I got one last year for free. Had to sell it due to hard times. Damn!

  19. Hey, you S.O.B. that's mine!!! I want it delivered to me here in SoCal or you're going to JAIL. You hear me?? I ain't shittin. I was coming for that today, and now i'm callin the cops.....................Shit, did i say all that out loud? Just KIDDING

  20. I'd dump the coupe and keep the trailer.:D

If you decide you don't need the trailer drop me a note, I need a cheap trailer and Twin Cities isn't that far for a deal.

Ok beggin' aside. That is a good score. Will make you a sweet ride and you're in cheap, so you can invest the money you would have spent on the body in paint. How cool is that.;cool:

I am serious about the trailer though. I'm building a trailer queen, of sorts.

It dont get much better than that, next year might be even better ? Fair play for putting your self out and asking ,if you dont ask you dont get==true

  22. Thanks for the advice and I will get the paperwork done ASAP. The last thing I want is someone claiming I stole the thing.
That ford motor idea is funny, I'll have to give that some thought. But truthfully, the first thought I had was it would only make sense to put a chevy in a chevy, we'll see. All I know is I'm going to sit on it before I do anything and make sure that the thing is legally mine.
Yeah, I can't believe I almost didn't even ask, but I haven't come across much sitting around like that so I said what do I have to lose by asking a few people if they owned it, glad I did.

"Hopefully I don't get sent to the whosgow for stealing",

Your Girl said you look good in CUFFS! Dont worry its Minnesota and they wont find your frozen ass until the snow thaws.

  24. Damn! What a score, both the trailer and the Chev. Already chopped even! I'm stunned.
I'm surprised no one suggested it yet. Go back and get the Astro for the entire underpinnings! The 4.3 V6 isn't exactly a small engine, look what it does in the Camaro and Fiero. Hell, even stiock in the Van they are 200hp, 250tq. The tranny, 10 bolt, disc brakes, etc. adjust the drive shaft length and you're more than half way there.
And get to the DMV. Congrats!

  25. yeah, it sounded gay to me too.

Your sign off equation is very cool, God bless.

  26. WTF.......FREE!?!?!?!?

Thats a kool lookin' ride.....looks just like a deuce doesn't it? Up hear where I'm at, not only is nothing free, but its all crap and it costs 3 times what it should:D. Good luck and keep us posted.
