Who cares? Hey, a 49 Merc stroker motor is a thing of beauty. Any tru-blue flathead freak would know it's a hard one to get ahold of. Congrats.. Now, build the***** out of it!
It's going in this...z'd, 19" wires, chopped, channeled. 40's-style lakes pickup or roadster. Whatever I can find in whatever condition that I can weld and grind on! Exciting times!
I am still weighing my options on that pickup and a few more bodies. I am really into trucks, would like to get a mid-30's cab...a little bigger and look pretty sweet chopped. Paso was such an inspiration to me, the cars and atmosphere there is amazing!
not to put a damper on things cause that sounds like a great project...but don't let yourself fall into the boat i am in...i want my car to be 40's but i have the newer 8CM motor like you just got and that makes it nothing older then 49...it just really bugs me that everything else is older but my motor...ive got a 59AB for when i get time to build another motor but for now im stuck with this new one....just filling you in on my dilema that you may run into also...good luck on the project zach
Yeah...I see what you mean. 49 is still 40's, right? I guess I just want it styled in the 40's. If I have a couple parts that are post-40's, I can live with that. Send me some pics of what you got going, I would like to see it.
a lot of the cars in the early 50's were still 40's style anyway, even through to the late 50's.People built what they liked and saw in magazines. The cr/truck you build will still have a 40's look,it is very hard to creat a period perfect car these days due to the equiptment we have at our disposal.Have you ever seen a 40's welder?brackets were more than likely to be bolted to the frame than welded and if welded probably gassed on,if arced on the welds would look like***** and have to be severly ground. What i'm trying to say is if you want a period perfect car you will have to study not only the parts of the time but the technology too,if not you can build a real nice car with the flavour of the time and be completly happy. It dont matter it will still be a hotrod.I know a guy who has a 50's built American car for instance that has coil overs on it,albeit they are old Matchless motorcycle shocks, that idea aint new but people would probably think it was modern not knowing any different. So go on build ya truck you look like you have some real nice quality parts there i'm sure you are up to a nice quality build. One lat thing Enjoy............Marq
adam, glad you found yourself a flatty!!!! i almost responded to your post looking for one but realized that california is a LONG ways from michigan...looks like you've got a fun project on your hands. chris
That one came from Kansas! It runs great and has the auto with overdrive...now I need to ship it here. I am still looking for more flatheads, just in case I break that one or want to start something else!
