Anyone needing any measurements? I'm thinking of making a book of them for a jig or a someday basket case.

As the owner of a vehicle half as nice(more messed with) I can relate to this feeling. The car in my avitar has been a dream car of mine all my life. I drooled over it many years ago. My dream came true recently. Everyone elses can too.

I feel honored to be a caretaker of such history. I know you can too even though it is only temporarily in your care.

    Thanks for sharing the photos.

I suggest having it digitally scanned. I'm sure Brookville or one of those other outfits would like to have a flawless '34 5w to base a new shell on.

    Man that is awesome!

What did it look like before it was stripped?

I didn't get a chance to get a pic of it before it was scanned. OlMarty on here that did the stripping did. I will get a copy from him. It had the real and I mean real patina. Crows feet, checking, crazing over polishing..... the only thing was someone had painted the original insert so it was flaking in big chunks.

Well, Let me say one thing. It is a very nice old Ford. But, Will it be hotrodded? If your just putting up pictures of a very nice old Ford that will be restored, I like most of the people on here are going to be dishearted that you are not going to alter it to make it a hotrod. What are the major modifications that you are going to make for your customer to make it acceptable to post here? This is a hotrod and custom board is it not? How much will you chop it? How low or high wil it be? How many louvers will you punch in that virgin sheetmetal? How big of a motor will you put in it? What kind of custom paint will be applied to make it stand out from the restoration crowd? These are just a few of the myriad of questions that traditional hotrodders want to know. Old original cars are nice. Old original cars that people are not afraid of and are willing to hotrod are even better. There. I said it. Anybody else feel like I do?

i for one dont agree with you. this car should be restored as a great example of a 34 5 window. there are not that many out there with low miles-one family owned and well preserved. i love hotrodded cars but not this one i also appreciate nice old originals and respect the owners choice to have it restored to original. thanks for sharing the process with us please keep posting progress. i dont think of this sight as just hot rods but talented people sharing there love of cars and the work they do with others to appreciate. my 2 cents for what its worth

No, I'm not willing to rod this one even if he asked. Its a part of his family's heritage. Plus I'm not getting payed to do anything but restore it to what he wants......but it doesn't keep me from thinking about making a clone of the 34 on the newest Rodders Journal..:D

you should tell him to get a alt. that looks like a gen. it just looks wrong with the alt on it. it will be 12 volts, but from one looking like a gen. keep us posted, and remember to turn on the flash on your camera!;)

Wow...that's nice! I started with a trashed, bashed, crashed old stock car but at least I got my 34, 5 window!
I often wonder if I'd have chopped mine if it had come to me as nice as that car....yeah, I would.

Well actually, I do agree to a point, but I think we all like to know that there are these gems out there. Also being offered the exact measurements from an unmolested car is a good thing. Think of this thread as a dream starter.

Final prime and sand, thinking might be in color tomorrow. Had a friend Larry Leist come in to the shop today that remembered the car from his child hood. His father ran one of the gas stations that was in town. He remberd that the guy that owned it always came to the pumps facing the east, always to the east. He said "I was maybe in middle school but I remember putting gas in it", "and the owner had thick, thick gl***es." "He really liked his beer" "always smelled like a 12 pack" Cool stories are starting to come out with it.
