There we were taking a detour to get off the Freeway on the way home from Goodguys Pleasanton yesterday afternoon, when I looked across the street and thought I was hallucinating. A bone stock 1937 Willys coupe sitting parked on it's own on the street! Did a quick (legal:rolleyes:) U turn and shot some photos. The owner walked up, introduced himself, admired my ride and we chatted Willys and old cars for a while. He is in his sixties and said the car has been in his family for generations and was his dad's. It had been stored for many years in a garage until he decided to restore it a while back. He says he drives it all over, but not on Freeways or up steep hills. It still has the mechanical cable operated brakes. He says the Crosley radio is original to the car as is the Allstate heater. He also said the unusual seven window wheels are original - I have never seen any like this before.

This was truly a magical moment for a hardcore Willys guy - and he clearly just flat out loves this car. It is definitely not for sale, so I just wanted to share so others can enjoy the car as I did....

Jeeze...I didn't think there were any stock
'37 - '42 Willys coupes left! Heck, most people
nowadays probably think they came stock from
the factory with blown small or big block Chevies,
    392 Chryslers or 394 Oldsmobiles!!! I absolutely
love Willys gassers, but it's kind of nice to see a
stocker for a change, even just as a reminder of
what the '60's gas class racers had to start with.

Id be lieing if a part of me didnt want to make it a gasser though...sorry I cant help it.

  14. Congrats Weasel- the school server is blocking your pics, so right now all I see is a white cow in a snowstorm, but I'm sure you found a great catch!

I love how the wheel openings return at the bottom (back of front wheel opening and front of back opening.) Very neat design feature.

If you think those headlamps are neato you should see the stock 39s with triangular lenses in that housing.

That car is kinda "infamous". It's popped up on a couple other boards too over the years. I hadn't seen detail shots though, so thanks!! :D We should all say a prayer that it never gets turned into a hot rod. And that's ok.

Man that's a gorgeous car, I also have never seen those rims before, the package shelf is something you don't see very often in a Willys Coupe! Mint stockers are a piece of art and should be saved, thanks for sharing!

That car is parked on upper State St quite often I see it all the time I should have taken pictures of it for you years ago.
You were here last weekend and I never heard from you.

I would drive the wheels off that....just like it is.

  29. That car kinda reinforces a picture in my mind that a Willys can also look very neat as a custom. Whoever designed them had an eye for smooth.
On the same token, I would also hate to see that car to be changed from stock.
I read somewhere that there is a larger percentage of Anglias to have been modified into drag cars than to have been left stock or restored to original appearing. I'm sure that Willys will also fit into this catagory.
History on wheels. WW2 decals on the windshield. Much more.
