I need to paint the firewall and the dash of my Vicky project in a very subtle white. There was a very typical white I remember that may or may not be Ford "Wimbledon White". I'm looking for a color that is just a tad on the creamy side but still white not yellow Anybody remember what was used back in the day?
Personally, I like the Chrysler white that was on the HEMI wagons about 10 years ago, think they called it Vanilla. Bob
Summit sells Wimbledon White in quart cans. Both single stage and two stage. They also have reducer and hardener. I bought some for a couple of models I did last winter and have used their products on an ot pickup. Prices are ok for what paint goes for these days. I think Eastwood sells the same product under their brand, and I recall that Amazon may have Wimbledon white listed. Summit ended up being either the cheapest or the same as the others, and shipping is free above $100, so it’s a good excuse to add to your order and not feel guilty.
I think this came up in a thread not too many years ago, so at risk of repeating myself… Not a big fan of bright whites, and being an ex-trifive nut (if being an ex nut is even possible) I’ve been using the gm tri-five “India Ivory” on my last 4 hot rods firewalls. I find it goes really well with black and then accenting with ivory elsewhere will look matchy-match. To accent the firewalls, I’ve used it on steering wheels, shift knobs and pin stripes. Not on steel wheels yet, but never say never.
Thanks guys! I really like Linco that I get from my local Autobody Supply. (Can't beat that **** off with a hammer!). I can get about any color now or then mixed at National Coatings in Pottsville. There used to be a deuce dash display at the old Hudsons' Speed Shop, now long closed, that was just perfect. I'm going to have them mix me a pint of India Ivory and give it a shot. I'll post up the results.
I still do the same as i did 55 years ago. Walk in the paint store and ask for the cheapest "off white " . Or "bright red "
"Cool Vanilla" was on the 2005 Chrysler I once owned. It was used from 2004 - 2011. I called it Poison Ivory. Cool Vanilla dash pix borrowed off the googlewebs...........
My bros 63 vette is painted Wimbledon white He said that was what the paint code for the car indicated. Looks very white next to my 57 Tbird painted colonial white, also a vin paint code. Ivory makes my Tbird look whiter
When I was building my old '32 pickup I too was looking for a creamer color than Wimbeldon White so I went with Dodge Magnum Cream on the firewall. I liked the color so much I used it on the window trim on the Ranch Wagon. HRP
I too used Wimbledon white on my firewall and while I was spraying, I carried the color thru the floor. It reflects light very well and makes it much brighter while working underneath. It's also surprisingly easy to keep clean.
I don't know what color you are painting your car, but Cadillac, I think 53 or 54 had a really neat looking white that has almost a light, light, light green tint to it. Gene.
My go-to whites have always been Wimbledon White for a creamy look or 70's GM Frost White for a pure white. When compared to each other, the lighting and surrounding colors can make a big difference. The Frost white can look blueish, while Wimbledon looks more yellow or tan. I like Frost white next to blacks or blues, while Wimbledon is the choice with almost any other color.
Welp, finally talked to my brother and he painted his car Ermine white I thought I had a wire I could pull but alas I’ll have to find something else Thank you
I painted the roadster's firewall, under-hood and underside with VW Savannah beige that I ended up lightening a bit to be a better match for my soft top.
