Think about it from a car rebuilders point of view. Providing it was a reasonably solid car. $11k to buy the car, $5k to buy a complete 4 door car. 40-50hrs to swap frame and install front sheet metal, another 40-50 hrs to install motor and paint car. Paying $15/hr guys in your shop = $1.5k. Maybe $1k in materials. That equals about $18.5 and you would be driving a $39k Mercury in 3 weeks.

This is doing the job of rebuilding the car, not building the car to your tastes, just repairing the car. If you start with a barn fresh car you will spend 2000 hours and have to buy EVERYTHING, motor, trans, paint, interior, rubbers (window, weatherstrip ect).

Just differtent ideas on how to do the car.

All very valid points, but you still need to find a buyer for it at that price and there are others out there for sale finished just as nice and better for that amount.
I don't think it is worth spot painting it, would probably need an over all to freshen it up, so maybe 2k in materials? Then Chrome work on the grill and stuff. Plus none of us really knows what kind of shape its really in to begin with, I think that's the biggest issue here. Without being able to see it in person who knows what's it worth.
It's been a fun thread though, and most everyone kept thier cool. Makes me want to start a thread on my vickey " how would you build it, what would it cost". Could be fun, and I'm sure it would be interesting...LOL

This whole thread is splitting my sides!!

  4. wonder if there will be 11 pages after selling? Definitely better than crap on tv. Lets watch and speculate on some more crashed auction classics. If the buyers happy then it was $ well spent.

  5. The shaved roof drip edge and mud crack scares me more then the crash damage....what type of build quality was it to begin with?

Not to bad...I've watched worse cars go for more. Took two years to find one in my price range in the shape I wanted.

If the buyer read this thread they wouldn't dare. Half of the members will chastise him for paying too much, LOL.

And the other half would encourage him! Have you bought merc stuff lately? People are now restoring yesterdays parts cars. Parts, bits and pieces are pricey if you can find them. Finished mercs seem to draw a healthy price with even the cheap ones being up there, especially coupes and rags.

I think it was a fair price.

Good luck to the guy on the rebuild.

The buyer Got a really good deal on this car, I should have bid more, But factoring in $1000 for transport and Coparts buyer fees, Not to mention there Dumbass Dock fee. I would have been between 12-13K by the time I got it home. And although I may have still been fine, You have to Draw the line somewhere.

It's been about a month since this was sold. I am curious if anyone has any info on it, did a member buy it, or has it shown up on a rebuildable wreck sellers lot? Or maybe it is going overseas?
