Member 3517. Hard to believe I've been on here almost 19 years. I was a sophomore in college, and it seems like an eternity ago.

I miss the old HAMB to be honest. It was a brutal, abrasive place where, if you could put up with the abuse, was a place where you could learn a ton. There was also much more emphasis on technical threads and build threads, and it seemed everyone was on here rooting each other on and pushing to build the best we all could. Good times.

  2. Plus we had a cookbook! All in good fun.

Damn shame I didn't run into any of that when I joined... That's ok... I would have been ready for it....;)

add one more who lurked and did not join due to the butt-holes. someone asked a 49 - 50 question and got no reply so I signed up to answer that. did my intro on post # 10,000 because so many people seemed to get all butt hurt if you didn't post one.

I joined on the recommendation of a friend, became #2535, the place had people interested in the same stuff I like. A car was listed in the classified section and the seller was getting a lot of negative things posted about the car and the fact that he was asking what he was asking. Total stranger to me but the car was built by a long time friend of mine in Florida, so I sent him a PM. Figured he might need some backup, that is how I met BLUTO. We became good friends, got a phone call every Saturday, he checked out too soon, think of him every day. Bob

I joined because I liked the way most people "came off" as a Callous, Hardnose, Asshole, ready to tear you to shred's at a moment's notice, and the humor that came with it was priceless! Learned a lot of thing's from those Gent's, Past and present! I miss the one's that have left us and covet the one's that are still here! I Love this Place!

  11. If some of you want to see what was going on back in the good Ol’ days,we’re an older, kinder, gentler place now.
Those days were worth joining just for the entertainment, with the hotrods as a bonus. And the characters…. Boy was it a hoot.

    ok, I'le bite.
    1) if you dont own, have built, or are building a hotrod, delete yourself from the members list and never post here again.
    2) if you dont own, have built, or are building a custom, delete yourself from the members list and never post here again.

5,000 of the nearly 6,000 posters here need to be axed and return to lurker status. I'm glad you all like hotrods but go away.

take your bugs, falcons, brand X, and B list crap and blow them out of your ass. I work real hard all day and I dont want to read about broke teenagers re-inventing the definition of hotrods because they have no money. Tough shit, too bad, sorry you were born late but quit posting it here.

On topic posts replied to by people that have never built a hotrod is.... well, a bunch of people guessing at shit they heard about once.

This place is like the Great White concert right before it caught on fire.

This post will get quoted and re-quoted and torn apart..... so in advance, let me say fuck you too. that 6 page gang rape of JimA was all class. thumbs up, way to go!”

Yes, it’s a kinder, gentler place now.

I always assumed , due to name and start date, that Ryan made the profile and screen name, etc.

  16. Ironically, #1 in this thread has a picture of an old HAMB header(?) with a 1960 Falcon with a 144 engine being hopped up in 1960. If I recall correctly, some or all of the people in the picture were famous hot rodders.

Yes, with all the delicate sensibilities that go with them.

The HAMB was a wild place.

People would get their ass handed to them for little or no provocation.

But the humor was smart, and off the wall.

I remember some guy complaining about "Fowl Language".

What followed was every imaginable joke of how the HAMB was going to the birds... :)

  19. Back in the "Good old days" a FNG had to have thick skin, a introduction was a must, and the proverbial ass kicking was the norm.

But the knowledge gained was worth the admission and the Hamb community uniting when young HAMBANDY made a huge impact on all of us.

The Hamb has changed over the years but it still remains as the best damn Hot Rod & Custom site on the internet. HRP

The "Jumping In" of FNG's made no sense to me.

Because it had a clickish element to it.

But, in retrospect, it did keep the riff raff out...

  23. Wow. As of a couple weeks ago I've been here 21 years. Met a lot of really good humans (many of whom have posted on this thread) and learned a ton . Met Germ. Bob K stayed at my house a couple of times. I have a much richer life because of this joint. :)

  24. I'll second Wayno's point about meeting a lot of great people, made many friends, have some great laughs and humor, have contributed to help others, have received help myself, and my life has been better thanks to the HAMB.

Original HAMB was a bit rougher than it is now. It wasn't elitist BS, it was like minded folks who wanted to get to know a newbie. Join the club, not the club joining you. We had fun with some newbie testing (thick skin helped, but far from the level many have alluded to). We had our laughs at the jacket clubs and orcabetties.

I have great memories of the early Billetproof and Asphalt Invitational shows. Went to the first Round Up on the high school field. Going to Bonneville Speedweek many years and touching base with friends. Paso shows before the fairgrounds. Road tripping with friends in their old cars to wherever we were going, and reading other HAMBer's road trip adventures. Swap meet searching and saying hi to friends.

Too bad for many of the old HAMB members that have passed on. Many I met or was closer to be friends with.

I joined in 06 without a street driven car meeting the HAMB criteria. Having only raced engines that met it lead me to many who also did the same. I’ve met a few contributors and found them very friendly and positive car enthusiasts. My 56 Victoria looks like it does because of Moose and his talents.
This site is one of the best kept secrets on the internet.
I haven’t a clue what # I am or where to find it! Ok #13073

I found the HAMB in 2008, joined right away, (think I'm # 11,700 something) and loved it ever since. Caught my share of crap (mostly deserved) but I'm married and ex-Navy so it just gave me a few laughs.:D
That said, the breadth of knowledge on here is amazing and I've learned so much by following along on numerous build threads. Screwing a motor or trans together or shorting out wiring is no problem for me but sheet metal work will always seem like magic. Seeing what looks like rusted, crusty scrap metal turned into a running, driving machine is beyond cool.
Add to that, characters like HRP, Squirrel, Drumyn29, Pist'nBroke, Bob K, Squablo, the Photoshop crew and so many others have made this place enjoyable to come to for a break from the day to day madness.
Speaking of Photoshop, never even heard of it before the H.A.M.B. but had to give it a try and some of my work has actually contributed to vehicles on the road today. Grin factor is off the chart on those.:D
The only thing that would make the H.A.M.B. better is free donuts.

.Just to stand up and be counted, I was on the road days and weeks at a time.
Some driver ( in 2008 ) mentioned the jalopy races in Pa.
Looking for that, the Net showed me J J . Later, 2010, the Barn kept mentioning H.A.M.B.
More than a decade I lurked, When I decided to climb in, my two bad eyes would not let me pass the 'bot' test.
So I continued lurking. Then I had my wife do it.
( Those who wonder how they let me pilot a big rig with bad eyes...all ya had to say was FELOPZD and DEFPOTEC to pass the eye test. Today That won't get ya there )
Life then was focused on long and frequent stays in the hospital, thanks to leukemia.
When I could not log in I gave up, and continued to lurk. Then in 2020 I got into gear.
    o_O .. .. .. .. :D .. :p .. .. .. .. :( .. ;) .. :)
But for the record I gotta regester this :
Thanks Danny And And of course Ryan

  30. I remember when I joined. Got my ass kicked and spit on a few times, but I was intent on becoming part of this group of ass holes. I remember Falcon George beating on me. So I gave it right back to him, and then the next thing you know, we became friends. Strange how that happens :D. One of the best things I ever did was becoming part of this:). You guys are my brothers from another mother. Now, get the hell off my lawn.
