I believe I'm #147. Joined March 9, 2001 on this version of the board. I remember being aggravated that the internet was down the day the HAMB came back on line and then I had to go out of town to work for a couple days.

I was around on the earlier versions though. Back In the dial up days.

I joined on June/27/2019, HAMB # 339905, so that makes me still very new here, I got my 5th Alliance firewall tag a few weeks ago. I totally enjoy being able to contribute to the weekly "FAS"

I was young & rather green when I found this place, it scared me plus I didn't really 'trust' the internet, so didn't want to give out details, including even 'signing' up to something??

I ended up on another boring forum & learnt a bit about how it all worked. Then braved it back here. There has been a few format changes, not sure if the first image was current when I joined in 06 (edit '05) it is vaguely familiar.

This place has been a big part of my hot rodding life, the seat of learning of all things Trad Hot Rod/Custom.
I miss many people, lots of of projects seem to have become more conservative, but there have been some epic build threads & saves of some wasted metal. The people are what makes this place, along with the way @Ryan & the Mods curate the place.
No all decisions would be made the second time round, but they are made & we move on.
    Thanks to all who contribute!

The flame wars were something to behold, anytime an RRT guy would come over the ribbing was merciless.

I'm gonna "declare myself" in light of recent topics and replies. As long as we avoid the "HAMB felony" topics pretty much anything goes. If someone says something silly, game on. Why not? All of us here (and I've said it before) are essentially sitting on a milk crate or shop stool cutting up, sharing war stories, bench racing, reminiscing, etc, etc, etc. Sure, we share technical and history too and not all hangout sessions are ball busting cut up moments. But should that never be in the content? I don't think so. This is hot rods. This isn't some pinky up tea sipping book club (no offense to pinky up tea sippers BTW, maybe). "Hoodlums nationwide" is in the mission statement. So, I declare that now n then I might have added emphasis on the hoodlum part. So be it. You walked in, and if you expect us to remove our hats and greet you with something other than "Hey fuckstick, what's up?" then maybe ballet or beanie babies are a better choice. Hit me back, I don't care. I can take it. It isn't personal, and if it is then in most cases it's more like tough love or hard-core respect. The day I have to bring my Emily Post to a fuckin vintage hot rod site is the the day you'll see my finger raised behind me as I exit. You want manners and reverence, hang on the AACA forum. "What the hell is this?" is something you'll never see there. I was banned for a week for saying asshole. No, seriously I was. Further, just making trouble is never welcome no matter where you are but the ability to let your hair down and enjoy the life is a unique opportunity we should treasure. Manners? Only in moderation. Love all of you, what did I say above? Oh yeah, fucksticks...

  16. I consider a few of those RRT guys friends as well. A lotta cross pollination between the two boards back then.

Just touch your name (not your avatar) and your number is at the end. You're 4314. It was also at the end of your quote in my reply.

If I didn't find the Hamb back in 07 when I was 19, I might have had a chance at being profitable in my life. Since I've become a member, I've spent all my money on cars, parts, tools, and machinery to build car stuff. I'm too far in now to quit.

I remember you arriving here, you had so much enthusiasm, it put others to shame, you were willing to have a crack & get stuck into crazy Fabrication projects - how hard could it be - seemed to be your mantra!

  27. There were posts on other boards about getting kick out here.....almost a badge of honor on who got banned the quickest.

Just like some in high school I peaked in the HAMB era and now I'm stuck.

  28. Cool thread....been here since Feb 2002, still here daily and dig it.

Its changed a lot .....but then what has'nt, including ourselves ?

Nearly 23 years, damn it has gone FAST.

  29. All the changes Ryan has made to the Hamb have been for the better, with each change it has become easier to navigate, much easier to post images, especially since the albums for hosting photos.

We all think back to when the hamb was new and growing but it's far better today, with the exception of all the members that have passed away. HRP

Before I knew any better, I thought the Hunnert Car Pileup & Jalopy Journal was some sort of reference to a Demolition Debry event!
