Hi . . . . I'm trying to find out more on the 1963-64 Larks campaigned by dealerships back in the day. Here's two that I've found: 1. Ray Tanner Studebaker in Phoenix had a 1963 Lark R2 campaigned as "The Whistler." I've read a number of things, such as how it won its cl*** (A/CS) at the AHRA Winternationals, later setting the cl*** record. I've been in touch with Studebaker folks (http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?70141-1963-R2-Lark-quot-The-Whistler-quot) but I am having trouble connecting the dots, especially since I am unfamiliar with racing and AHRA vs. NHRA (apparently, they both had Winternationals). 2. Another dealership was Warren and Day Studebaker out of San Bernardino. The driver was named Gordon Williams, who seems to be of some repute throughout the decade (http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?18088-Warren-and-Day-Studebaker). He supposedly drove a 1963 R1 Lark to victory in F/SA at the 1964 (1963?) Winternationals, which I'm ***uming is NHRA due to a Pomona reference I've read. But I am unsure of the cl*** as well, as I've also seen references to him running in C/SA as well as having upgraded his car to R2 and, perhaps, R3 specs. Someone suggested I post in this forum, so if anyone knows good resources to help me find clarity in my research, I'm all ears . . . thanks!
as an 1963 R1 Lark owner I would say go to the SDC folks for info....currently in the Hot Rod Magazine Stock Muscle Car challenge there are some cars running - a Challenger and an Avanti are doing pretty good....
I'm already in touch with the SDC folks (especially Bob Palma, George Krem, and Ted Harbit), but it's the dots I'm trying to connect after finding conflicting information in my research.
