Ive been digging around attempting to find some history on my car. It is a orange 47 Ford with an Olds Grille, chopped 51 hardtop and a Nailhead. It was built in Buffalo, NY from 56 to 58 and was named The Goonie Bird. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> I finally found an old NAPA / Unit Parts News Illustrated cover with the car highlighted on it from 62. Cool shot. <o></o> Im contemplating striping and restoring the car to its original glory. I you have any info or old New York Clutch Artists Autorama photo of it I would love to get a copy. <o></o> Thank You. Then: Now:
Thanks for the comments. I've gone back and forth on changing it. I may leave the current look, and just get rid of some of the streetrod type mods to it. (Tilt wheel, radials) Then some days I think it would look better black or dark green / blue. Here are a couple of shots of the interior, it'll stay for the most part:
I wouldn't change it. I agree, maybe get rid of the GM column but the radials don't bother me. They make for a nice driving car.
I understand wanting to make it yours but it dose look real good in that blue thats on there. Dark Blue always makes a car look a little cl***ier. If anyone is gona have pics of it in its former glory I'd try Rickster or OOmack
Actually that is the problem. I did a lot of work to make it mine, now I'm thinking I really didn't respect its history enough.
I thumbed through some old magazines - sorry no luck. Who care, just keep it as it. What color is it anyway?
It is '96 Ford Ultraviolet. I'm sure you've seen it running around on Probes, Mustangs, Rangers etc. It looks much different on a fat custom.
When I was looking for a DD/winter car a few years ago, I wanted a Ranger in that color. Now I think I was looking for the wrong car. I wouldn't change a thing, that car is YOURS now, go and write some new history for it.
Here is a better scan of the Februari 1963 Car Craft magazine. And a slightly reworked scan of the photo...
Respecting history? Buddy, you kept that old dog alive and looking good. The changes made don't denigrate the history but rather make a continuity of history, customs are everchanging and yours has retained the history and flavor better than most. (That said, ditch that goofy giraffe neck floor shifter and use a column shift.) That car is magnificent as is (except that shi*@#ter)! My hat's off to you!
Like the skirts you put on it, are they new or were you just lucky enough to find them? Those first photos are obviously taken at the Round-up, what year?
I've seen your car at many cruise nights (can't believe we never met!) and I think it looks great as is! I understand respecting history but I just don't think orange would look good, IMHO cars like yours needs deep, rich colors and leave bright colors for hot rods & race cars. Several people have told me your car was an old Barris build, certainly looks as it could of been with the grill treatment (one of their favorites), what, are they ***uming it cause George signed the dash?Glad to here you have the history.
