One time about 3 years ago, I saw a vintage cup holder on eBay. Seems that some company back in the 50's had made a unit that would slide into your ash tray receiver (55 or 56 Ford p***enger car) and have a large hole/holder for a cup. Anybody using this aftermarket accessory? Can't remember if it was chrome or not, but that sure would be nice. I have asked around at a lot of custom suppliers, but nobody has, or most have never heard of it. dj
There's one on eBay for baby birds, might make it fit your car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1955...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a0d60f4d7 Here are two links from the main board about cup holders. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=433036&highlight=cup http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=546791&highlight=cup+holder
thanks for the lead. I messaged the seller to find out if it is going to fit a p***enger car...still waiting for a reply. The one that I saw several years back was definitely a retro model. That item on ebay is okay, but not quite as good as the one made back in the day. Hopefully this other one will fit for the time being.
I was a route driver for Snyder's of Hanover for 17 years and I used this for about 10 years till I quit smoking ! Was an old piston from a chev 283 . That worked pretty good as well . Sure glad I quit smoking and gave the piston away to someone else . So for something really kool for an ashtray , take a piston from a lawn mower and attack or glue a strong magnet on the back of the piston and will attach to the dash no problem . They use to make a magnet ash tray back then for cars that had metal dashes . I also used a role of duct tape all those 17 years for my morning coffee at 3am every morning as a route driver ! Worked the best of anything I ever had ! When we went to the drive-in we used the glove box as a cup holder ! Jim
