I have a '39 Ford top loader that I'm going to put in my '32 Ford frame that currently doesnt have a transmission cross member. I've read on here that a good way to go is the F1 trans cross member. I've been looking for one around lately. I did find someone that has a F3 frame. I havent seen the frame yet and its not close. Do you guys know if the F3 trans cross member is the same as the F1? I guess the main question is: What year F1 or F2 or F3 trans cross member am I looking for that I can use with my '39 tranny? Thanks!
The F1's typically came with a 3 spd, and the F3's with a 4 spd with a driveline brake mounted on the back of the trans. I would assume they used different cross members, but I am not 100% sure.
The F-1 crossmember is shallower than the F-2/F-3 crossmember. It'd probably be faster to build your own unless you're lucky enough to find someone swapping in a T-5 transmission into their F-1. Most of those guys either chop up the stock crossmember or build a new one. You could also try the FTE site, they're a lot of guys there who have extra frames laying around. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum41/ Pm HAMB member 51PanelMan , he's also a member on FTE, he's in San Jose. He might have one laying around. He's always finding the Bonus Built trucks laying around. FWIW, Ford used the rear wheel e-brake until '51 on the F-2/F-3, the switched to the drum on the rear of the tranny.
F-1 is different then an F-2 or F-3. I do have a spare F-1 crossmember I would part with, PM me if interested
I found one on the auction site. The company parts out a lot of classic vehicles, they had the F1 pedals for $40 so I bought them and then asked about the crossmember, they had one for $65. The first set they sent were lost by USPS, so they sent me out a second set yesterday. Sounds like they have a few of them.
