I'm looking for a good quiet single muffler for my project 41 chevy . It has a 216 in it and I'm not looking the loud ratty - tat- tat of the straight pipes. I would like it to be oval shape so it will tuck up , so if anyone has name or type to look for please chime in thank Ed.
You just described the stock muffler for a 216/ 235 Chevy car perfectly. I'm not finding one though normal sources but any muffler shop should have a replacement oval muffler about 24 to 30 inches long with the right inlet and outlet on it. According to this the stock muffler is round with offset inlets and outlets but they don't tell what size. They also show a complete exhaust for a 41 https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/shop/...dept=&cat=&new=&sale=&showcase=&searchtype=FT That will probably be the highest prices you see on those parts as they are known for being on the high side of the price range on most of their parts.
Waldron's has what you need. They usually offer a "stock" sounding version and a throatier (turbo) style option. Their mufflers are usually built to order and they're busy right now, so it might be a few weeks unless they happen to have one in stock. http://waldronexhaust.com/ Tel: 800-503-9428
thanks guys for chiming in , yea I looked at Chev of the 40's and yes a little high . And I gonna have to call the Waldron people to see how much for the muffler alone cause my exhaust system is already run but the muffler is a little loud .
