Projects Looking for any help I can get.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Philip Rosenberger, Jul 13, 2015.

  1. I have a 1953 Chrysler Windsor, 6volt 265 6cyl. I'm new to working on old cars so any and all advice given will be greatly appreciated. I'm starting with the interior since it has some mold. So the first question I have is how to remove the door and window crank handles. I want to get the door panels off. Thanks for any help.

  2. The door handles may have a set screw in them but they will most likely have a clip or a roll pin. First look for a set screw and if no luck take a putty knife and push the door panel away from the handles and see what they have holding them on.

The handles are most likely held on with one of these clips from behind the handle.

Push in the escutcheon plate and upholstery panel, it is spring loaded. Then you can peek in and see the base of the handle. I believe it is held by a pin about the size of a pencil lead. Push this pin out and the handle comes off.

You can use a small nail and hammer to drive it out. HRP

Pine-Sol and Simple Green are your best friends when removing old dirt and mold. For particularly difficult dirt/stains, try an EXTREMELY weak solution of Purple Stuff, but be careful with it and don't use it on aluminum parts, as it will etch them.

  6. Hotrodprimer, thank you for the help. Got the panels off the other day.
