Looking for clutch pedal/linkage ideas for '32 Ford

    I'm looking for ideas for clutch/brake pedal and linkage for a '32 Ford frame. I'll be running a Muncie 4-speed, so I'm open to mechanical or hydraulic setups. If you have pics, that'll be great too.
     
  2. Here's what I did. Drilled and tapped the Scattershield bellhousing for a bracket and mounted a GM Clutch linkage ball, did the same thing on the frame side and then machined a cross shaft that uses the GM nylon clutch linkage ball bushings, countersunk into the cross shaft ends. I used 5/8 DOM tubing and drilled and tapped 3/8 NF for spherical rod ends (left & right) for the rods. I cut out the arms from 3/8 plate and welded them to the cross shaft. You will need to do a lot of measuring to get all of the dimensions correct and on the same plane, so the throw out arm works correctly.

    That is absolutley beautiful! Makes the setup I came up with look downright crude!

    Were did you get the GM clutch linkage balls and nylon bushings? What year and model are they from?

    Saw in the new Street Rodder magazine that SoCal is making a bellcrank and arms kit that looks like HemiDeuce's above. In the article they install it in a '32 frame with a SBC/Muncie. I wondered how come somebody hasn't offered this before? A lot of the parts might be from the GM shelves, but there are some critical lengths and angles in there too. If you're not a DIY fabricator, check it out.

    You don't need a kit to build that setup at all. I used 51 F1 pedal assembly, an early GM bell crank assembly, some 3/8" heim/rod ends and some round rod threaded, I think the whole setup only cost me about $70-80 to make and works flawlessly, looks great too, I'll get a few pics of mine. Besides the pedal assembly and rod ends, the rest of the stuff can be sourced at a junk yard, no need to dish out crazy money to buy a pre-made setup.

  14. The GM part number for the Ball Stud is 03935289 and the seat number is 3743349, both are group 008510

    I can't find the number for the Clutch Fork, but note that it is not straight, it is a dog leg style.

    I also ended up putting a number of holes in the arms to change the ratio.

    I'd like to see pictures of that. I'm at this same spot in my build and would like to keep a mechanical clutch linkage if I can get away with it.

    The SoCal kit is expensive, but I bet they'll sell you one without the bellhousing.
     
  16. The So-Cal set-up uses a clutch fork that is a Danchuk re-po part for 55-57 chevys. It costs about $40.00. It looks similar to what hemi-duece used.

    I have used the So-Cal clutch set-up. It costs about $250.00 and comes with everything but the clutch fork.

    I was happy with the way it worked and looked.

    Thanks HemiDeuce. I'll probably go with the 57 Chevy clutch fork since it looks similar to what you used.
    You put holes in the arms coming off the cross shaft? I wasn't aware that you could change the ratio that way.
