    Hello color specialists
I am looking for a color to paint my Super 88 Olds. It must be the same color as in the picture. Any idea? Olds1956.jpg
I checked out a dealer album, but no luck. Must be something different. Or special color. It would be nice to get to the owner of this Olds, that I can ask about the color he used.
    Any help appreciated.
    Best regards from Switzerland

Many automotive paint suppliers and body shops have a comparator. They can use a "gun" to read the color and should be able to identify the factory color and/or be able to mix an exact match. Not new tech, been going on for a long time and the tool has gotten too cheap to pass up compared to the cost of remixes. The big box home centers like Menards all have these and match house paint colors but I don't think they have auto paint info. I don't know how close they can get using a photo, but you might ask. Keep in mind that paint sometimes looks much different in photos from in person viewing. Good chance the PO just picked this color out of a chip book. You should be able to do the same thing by looking at color chips. For some reason, when I see that color, I think German sports or luxury car. I wouldn't bother looking at the Internet, too many variations in monitors, etc. to be accurate. When I had a NAPA store Martin Senour sent color chip charts for all colors, including foreign stuff. That might be a good place to start if you have a store in your area. By the way, that IS a great color combo. My granddad had one of these in light/dark green.

  5. Have you seen the car in person? I ask because pictures - printed or on a monitor - are rarely accurate, for dozens of reasons.

    This is true:

Are those colors original to that car meaning do they match the paint codes on the cowl tag?
GM Heritage has nothing on 56 Olds at all .
This is the paint chip page for 56 olds that I snagged off an Ebay add. Olds paint chip 56.jpg

My family bought a 55 Olds 88 four door, blue and white roof. They kept it for 26 years. My godmother bought the 1956 olds 88. She was a little lady driving that great big Olds. So, these cars are imprinted on me. Great dashboards and love the airplane hood ornament.

from my iPad your colors look like lavender over black. They look to be modern metalflake or pearl, not solid 1956 colors.

We finally found a suitable color.
It is a Yamaha motorcycle color that comes very close.
