looking for frame idea for my 1950 plymouth business coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lindaswalker@cableone.net, Jun 23, 2010.

  1. Would like to a frame that i could put my body on still thinking about staying with a chrysler drive train. Thanks in advance for any help .:):D

  2. Why a frame swap? Are you interested in swapping in another motor? If so, what? Lots of people have made engine swaps without doing an entire frame swap.

These MoPars have a decent IFS setup and boxed frame to begin with.

  3. Didn't it come with a frame? What's wrong with it?

It's a common misconception that a frame swap is easy, or any easier than updating the frame that already fits the car because it was designed for it.

Frame swaps are a cop out. Did you get into this stuff to hotrod an old car, or do want a late model that looks old?

well then i copped out big time lol:D if you want ideas check my build page
its not for the weak at heart and i would only do it with a car thats rotten on the bottom like mine if i had a solid car i would just transfer stuff to stock frame the easy no brains cells needed quick way

  6. Keep the stock frame. You can buy the parts to rebuild the front suspension. The frames are quite strong. You could actually put a early Hemi or a even a 283.

Im putting a 1954 Dodge 260 Poly with a 1957 Plymouth 3spd OD in my 53 Plymouth and I dont have to modify the frame to do it. Everything is bolt in.

Keep the frame, save your self more work.

The original chassis would be my choice, too. But, if that won’t work for some reason (like, it’s gone) then Chevy S-10 or GMC S-15 pickup chassis are them most common alternative.
