So the '56 is getting close to road ready. I'm looking for something I know I have, but looking for 'em and finding 'em are 2 different things.

Does anyone have a matching pair of these or similar 6X9" grilles they want to sell or trade:

I looked on THE auction site, DAMN! I don't want to sound like a cheapskate but - nearly $20 each plus S&H ?! I'm trying to stay old-style so please, no plastic or rad stuff. If anyone has a good used matching pair they'd like to part with, let me know along with $$ or something you're looking for that I might have.

Okay if they need paint or cleaning but relatively straight please?
    Thanks
    Ron

You might try this, check with some of the places that install stereos a lot of 6X9 aftermarket speakers came with grilles and did not get used during the install. Here in Phoenix in the Hispanic area where they do more 'Ol Skool installs is also a good place to look if you have a similar area in your town.

I dont have any, but while your at it, I would love to hear what your doing for speakers in your 56. I am at the same point right now, trying to decide what to do. I know where I am going to put them in the back, but for the 2 fronts I want them in the door, but the door isnt flat where I want them. What are you doing with them?

First of all, thanks Jeff for the tip. Unfortunately I don't know of any such sound shops in my area that do installations - used to have a Mickey Shores but it's long gone. Although relatively close to the border, the Canadians don't do stuff like that, eh? :) I tried Radio Shack and the kid gave me a funny look... then Best Buy - forget that. We have several swap meets coming up around here soon so maybe I can find some there if nobody here comes thru. So I'm still looking.

Second, ct - I'm not exactly sure yet what I'll do speaker-wise. I bought a set of 6X9s off ebay for the package tray but don't have anything yet for the front. John left the original AM radio and speaker in the front - fully functional. And he ran wires from the hidden/second radio (located in the console) to the front and rear. I don't want to cut the door panels so will likely find some mini's to go at both corners underneath the dash. I'll be over at the shop on Friday so I'll take some pics of the setup so far and post 'em here.

Again - still lookin' for a pair of old-style 6X9" speaker grilles, used, new, buy, trade.... thanks

Ron,here is another option click on this: www.millionbuy.com/caudio-woofbox-speakerbox.html this is what I am putting in my '54.The 6x9 speakers installed in these boxes will give you better sound in your car as all the sound will be directed into the interior rather than your trunk,if you look at your rear package tray you notice the 6x9 hole is in the center with a rectangular hole on each side, these boxes are almost the same size and by using common hardware "L" brackets you can attach them to the underneath of the package tray.Back in the 50's and 60's we used to put "fake fur" mats to match the interior in the package tray,by doing that you will hide the speakers out of sight and the sound can still come thru, you can find this at most fabric stores and posssibly your local Wal-Mart you might also check for the grilles and boxes there.

Be aware, Ron, that the guys'll look at you kinda funny if you use the fake fur...

Maybe? but it is "traditional" (LOL) and period correct! And it hides them from the sticky finger crowd, you might find the metal ones at your local Pic & Pull if they have any 70's and earlier cars.

Dang! I think the last time I bought fake fur it was a 99 cents Beatles wig at SS Kresges on '64  :)

But yes I vaguely remember that stuff now that you mention it. I think the Pharoahs had it in their lead sled Merc in AG too.

I found one grille today while scrounging thru my boxes of stuff, will go out Saturday & see if I can find a mate for it. Looking at the car today, perhaps a couple of 3" mini speakers will fit nicely into the front kick panels.

Here's the setup so far, from the p***enger seat - stereo mounted in the console:

Package tray without the finish panel, as you said Jeff, the 6X9s should fti into the square holes:
