I've been lurking this board for a while after my father in law told me about it. We're working on an old '53 Merc flathead. Ive done some research about MegaSquirt on various other projects Ive had my hands on, but I've not been able to find alot of good detailed information on a flathead install. I found a thread by Flatdog on his s/c'd flathead with megasquirt, and some of Vergil's various threads about his. But Im curious about a couple things. Intake and fuel delivery don't worry me, but heres what I wonder. Ignition- how'd they do it? Are they using a stock or variation of a stock distributor or what? I see that a crank trigger is being used, but I'm curious how many tooth it is, how they set it up on the crank to find tdc. I like the look of Vergil's crank trigger, but Id like to see what the rest of the ignition system looks like and how it's setup. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Im sure with enough time I could figure it out, but any advise would make it alot easier! Thanks Justin
Affordable Fuel Injection is only about five minutes from my house, and I know they have done flathead EFI conversions. Just Google "Affordable Fuel Injection". I know they have a website.
You don't need a crank trigger. Megasguirt or ours (Prodigious Alpha l) will both fire off the distributor. Use a 6 AL and you're there. Gemini EFI
If you want to keep the ignition seperately -well I've run the Megajolt system just fine for a few years now. http://www.autosportlabs.org/viewtopic.php?t=492&sid=c42e1d293cf070d0bf3f8c332180f32b
Well, the object is to figure out just what I needed to make the megasquirt work ignition wise, fuel and air I know what I need to do.
