Spring in front with a dropped axle. There was a thread on this car about 5 years ago? might be worth finding, i realize you are taking a different direction in terms of the look and welded doors and so on, but shots of the front end could be helpful. Arrow 775's again, like on Bleeds basement find, seat cushions right on the floor .

My brother found about the car back in 83 when he just graduated from high school. Didn't have any money so my Dad bought it. Had been stored in a garage that the lady passed away and stored since the late 50's. Looked like the first photos. The frame was butchered up at the steering box and had big plates bolted on. My Dad pulled the Buick, fixed the frame a got a hold of that flathead which was a built motor that came out of a 46 Merc that a friend was restoring stock. It's been sitting like that since late 80's. It was shown at the Detroit Autorama in 55 with a flathead, that's how it will be. Has a Stewart Warner Hollywood Gauge Panel and full white and blue interior. Since my brother found it, my Dad swapped him another car for it, later picture is when it was hauled to my brother's place. Doesn't need much, got to get my brother going on it. More pictures on the Hot Rods of Dearborn website.

Very cool! Hope to see it done at a show some day! the interior sounds really nice, those panels are hard to find now.

Instead of a sweep, if you figure its not low enough with the frame depth channel, dropped axle and spring in front, you could do a 2"-3" Zee just behind the firewall. Then you could have the same look as the original 6" channel, but keep more of your interior room. Might be a good way to go, you could really re-create the look of the car as it was, but make it more comfortable to drive.

I forgot, you asked off-forum about the swing pedals, I cant really tell in that photo, its really pretty fuzzy and underexposed, can you get me a better photo? The Ford pedals bend in both planes, sideways to clear the column, and they are also bent back and kinda upwards towards the driver, and that upward bend is on the "kink" where they bend straight back down after they go around the steering column. I want to say those are, but the photo is too shitty to be sure.

I stumbled across this last night and noticed the license plate frame, close but not a perfect match. At first, I thought I might have found the car, but no swing pedals, no fuel filler, and the taillights are closer together. But this car is KILLER! 283's are cheaper than flatheads...;) I will post the whole article later today. Wait till you see the rest of this thing...

Washington did have a fender law back in the 40's thru the 80's. Now for you license plate. It will require a personal visit to the DOL in Olympia to access their archives. This is best accomplished in person. I have traced really old licenses and cars thru this process. Take pictures of your body and be sure to take the license plate with you. If you can find any numbers on the body make a rubbing of it.

If you just call or write you will get the typical Government bureaucrat response NOTHING. These records are kept in a storage building and are available. There now may be a charge for this service.

    Good luck, hope this helps,

In Mass. you can have a title search done at the RMV to find out names and dates of prior owners. Something like $50.
You may be able to do it with a plate too??
    Good luck!!

  13. I was told they used to do this, but stopped fairly recently do to privacy concerns. How long ago did you do this? It's a long drive to Olympia in my truck, so it's not something I've explored much

I can understand privacy concerns for current/recent registrations, but 50 years ago? Back then automobile registrations were considered public records. The policy may be different between recent computerized records and the paper archives. Finding that out is the trick. Chances are good that the branches won't know.
It occurs to me that the car may have come from out of state just before it was registered. Otherwise, it would typically not have been issued new plates unless the old ones were damaging or missing. One exception might be if it had been off of the road for a long time and the DoL decided it needed new plates, but that was much more common in the reflective plate era.
Plan for it to be an all-day project to visit Oly, by truck or even train.

From what I understand they have to send someone over to a warehouse where all the old paperwork is stored and archived. We had to wait about 3 days for them to dig out the title for my 71 to make sure it was good a few years when I transferred it after it had sat in my uncles yard for 15 years and in mine for a few more.
I posted the photos on the North West rods and customs page on FB when you first posted it but no one knew the car. https://www.facebook.com/groups/146974048755599/

  18. I wrote WA State as well, there was a request form I think I got off line to do so. It was for a car I bought that was last licensed in 63-64, same owner but he lost the title. I had the registration, plates, etc...just no title. Oh course WA state told me they had no record of it, and said I needed to do an inspection and then a 3 year wait. They said in the 70's/80's there was a fire which destroyed a lot of records.

And FYI, if you do not register a vehicle for 7 years, they pull it from their system.

  19. How long ago was that? From what I have found out within the last few years they changed the law (privacy issues) so the don't give out that information any more. Nearest I can tell. You need a friend in law enforcement or hire a private investigator. Even in person in Olympia they don't give out the information.

  21. 2012-2013. It was this car. Old purple model A sedan with a white top and white running board covers. Neat car, never could nail down the title.

  22. Just parts collecting. I bought a nice pair of doors. So I have a good drivers door now. I also was able to get some cowl pieces that I think I have enough to patch the bead area that is bad on the drivers side upper cowl now. I also am getting a nice firewall today. So with the quarter panel I already have I am ready to get started on body repairs.

Last year I took the title I had to a 29 Ford that was in my name since 1970 and not driven since 1980 and they gave me a new title because the old one had a lien holder on it and was signed off. Took about 10 minutes and they didn't seem to have any trouble looking up the information.

Try http://vinfreecheck.com/. Plunk in your vin. You will get a very quick response that will tell you if they have a record. If they do, you can request a report for about $10.
