About 10 years ago (2014/2015) I was browsing Craigslist when I came across a listing in NYC that caught my attention. It was a black 2 door 1949 or 1950 DeSoto Custom. The description is what really caught my eye. It was allegedly a moonshine runner's hot rod back in the 50s or 60s and had a hopped up flathead 6 under the hood. Other than that there wasn't much info to go off of. The few photos he had showed a really rough and rusty car tucked away in a back yard in NYC. It had a lot of rust in some difficult areas to fix but looked complete. It was black on black steel wheels. Unfortunately there were no pictures that I can remember of the interior or under the hood. I was in highschool at the time so I had no real way of getting it out of that yard and back to my place in the Rochester NY area (about 6 hours away on a good day), let alone the budget to really do all the rust repair and mechanical work it would have needed. Fast forward a decade or so and my curiosity won't let me forget it. I've seen a handful of similar 2 door DeSotos but have yet to see that specific one pop up since. I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about it or it's fate. The Wayback Machine and Google were absolutely useless so I'm hoping to have better luck here. I've included some photos of similar cars to give everyone an idea of what it looked like. Any info would be appreciated.
