I have a 34 Chevy Master with custom steering run with universal joints. I have read from time to time that for safety sake some folks tac weld each ujoint to the steering shaft.
My question is that common practice? I am looking for a way to assure the joints to vibrate loose. I have used permanent loc tight and tightened set screws as tight as possible now. Just looking for extra safety.
    Thanks

  3. Not sure what brand steering joints you have, but I dimple the spot that the set screw sits into, tighten it up, and use a lock(jamb)nut.

I too "dimple" the shaft and use lock tite.

  5. As @Algoma56 mentioned, use a long enough set screw that you can get a lock nut onto it.

Is this a splined or double D u-joint, or a smooth round bore joint?

If he's using a set screw on a round bore joint, God help us all!

DD shaft, DD joint, dimpled-set screw-locknut-safety wire.
