Projects Looking for Mercury dashboard ideas

  1. Put a smoke colored clear plastic over the guage area and it'll be cheap and look good.

If that other bezel works out, maybe you can cut the right end off this one, flip it over and create a waterfall of sorts to tie into the console. Just a thought.

exactly what I was thinking. Run it to the stereo.
Soon after I got this dash, it fell off the workbench, and the upper surround broke off of it. No worries about cutting it up now

back in 1969 I bought a 51 2-door Merc. I would definitely do things different (now that I know better) than what I did to that poor car. Plus I would keep it in a more secure area. My dad sold it for 25 bucks (with a busted motor) while I was on a Westpac cruise in the Navy.

If I still had it I would have it looking quite stock inside and outside except for a couple of custom touches like a shaved trunk lid and no hood ornament. and definitely the stock dash.
engine wise I would probably have a SBC in it because when I bought it already had a 327 and powerglide. with the merc-Matic rear end, it was a good highway cruiser.

Anybody that takes the stock gauge panel out of those, is an idiot. I LOVE the '50-'51 dash. So much so, that I'm putting one in my '49, when I find a decent gauge cluster (anybody got one?). The '49 always looked like an afterthought add-on to me. If you need to leave the console, I'd modify the top where it reaches the dash, and NOT modify the dash at all. Cut to match the curve of the dash. Or, trim it down so it's lower than the dash. I think what you have going on now, is OK. Probably have to work over the upper trim piece, but I'd roll with it. I also have T-bird seats in mine, but no console. Manual floor shift, so the T-bird console would have to be completely cut up anyway. And the bezel I found on the HAMB was broken in shipping, so I know how easy they get broken.
