I’m bored and contemplating building a new roof for my roadster. I have a good convertible roof (that I can completely remove with a few clips ) that I ride around with now . But I drew up a few pics of what I would do for a removable hard top coupe style roof . What do you think?[IMG][IMG][IMG]

can you bring the material further down on the side opening to give it a lower look?

Keep in mind it would have all the sweeping corners not right angles. Again I’m just playing with ideas.

  8. Are you meaning to make it look like a ragtop?

Stogy's car has a homemade top that would work with your theme.

I'd leave the top alone and put black stock steel wheels on it with chrome lugs and taller blackwall tires.. The small diameter tires throw everything off..

IMHO, I think the back is way too vertical. It should start leaning forward from the tulip panel to the first bow.

Thinking it's a military stripes look. I'm for a taller rear tire profile also. Really don't have a opinion on the top for some reason though. Cool car!

Unless I’m mistaken Stogy’s car is actually a real model A, not something that vaguely resembles a model A.

You seem to have kind of a P-40 theme going. Would it be possible to make your hardtop with a lot more window in it more like a P-40 ****pit canopy?

I think thats the kinda project you have to start bending steel and fitting it. Then take some paper or cardboard to it to get a feel for the finished product. Some conduit and a hand bender would get a frame roughed out quick. Just dont breath that galvanize smoke in when welding.

As most of you I’m building within my means. Is this a true model A roadster ? NO but it’s what I could afford to build to stay within my original budget. It’s a fun car that I drive the hell out of and have fun not to mentors won several awards at shows. I would love to build another ride but that’s not going to happen so I’m just trying to be creative and give it a new look . I thought the coupe style roof would let me use it later into the fall.

This isn’t quite it either. Where the side panel meets the back is squared off. I believe I have a way to make upper corners so that meet both the sides as the back are rounded as a real coupe top would be.

What you’ve drawn, suits the style of your car.
I always liked this one, but probably too curvy for yours.
