    Hello...
I live in Costa Mesa and I am looking for someone to do a little prep before paint on a Model A roadster. It doesn’t need much, fix a few dings here and there and a couple wavy sections behind doors. All bad metal has been replaced and is sprayed in primer. I have a paint shop that keeps blowing me off... so I may just go the Maaco route. I just need the body looking good. Anyone interested? Preferably close to Costa Mesa? Or can anyone paint for 3k? I know it’s low for a paint job! IMG_1647.JPG

No real painter will stand behind a job unless he starts with bare metal.
If you're just going to turn it then Maaco is your best bet.

Buy some materials (papers, sanding blocks, etc.), watch You Tube and/or find a mentor (that's how I learned many years ago), ask questions and just do it yourself. Body work isn't really hard, it's time consuming and tedious but only you know what it will take to satisfy you. You can do it if you decide to. Everyone starts somewhere.

I have a friend that used to make a living buying project cars that people had given up on. He could build a car off of extra parts the owners had doubled up on. He would hire a helper to aid him get it ready for paint, then take it to a maaco in riverside. At least SIX were magazine cover cars. He bought, built, sold, keeping sale price at or under $20,000. I had a friend strip my 68 surburban to metal, prime, paint, clear coat. The paint is bubbling, clear is flaking off, and he owned this maaco. They are all not equal. I agree with the above comment made by Never2old, I used to try and get the body close to ready for paint ,and found out I wasted my time and money. I truly believe that most shops have an end price in mind and get it one way or another. I see a lot of threads about looking for cheap paint or painters. MISTAKE. Find a good painter, use good paint, save up. In the end life will be better.

  5. How the hell can you stand behind it?
Nowwwwww,,,, however,,,, in most shops painters paint. They’ve never seen the car In bare metal never block sanded it never prepped it. They get the car rolled in the booth they chase the gun around all day.
The guy standing behind it all that work also probably never spent more than 49 mins on it.
I know lotta guys who shoot other people’s Body Work.
