im new here i like to build one for my self. is there some place you can buy plans or do you just start with your own design? thanks for any help
First: collect your parts that you want to use. Engine, ******, rear end. front end and steering. Radiator (optional) but makes it a lot easier. Tank and so on. You can then decide what style that you want. Read those rules over and over and don't read between the lines. Old ******s break when put up against a well prepped track, (with glue). You can build a 2x4 wood frame if you are not sure what you want. don't build the top cage until you have a seat in place. Mine spent a lot of time on blocks to get the right height and spacing. You can tack the parts together and then have it weilded up if you need that. At one time I actually had a wood drag length, when I had the right length, then I ordered one from Speedway. Have fun and think it thru. It will help to get a NHRA rule book.
Just think about what you would like it to look like, Then look at some of the cars on the HAMB-SDRA thread, You should get a pretty good idea what most guys are doing.. But mostly, Build what YOU want...Just stay in the line of the rules. And you will have one in no time..But above all, "Don't be afraid to ask questions"....
..... and you both beat me anyway. Howdy, Yeah, you just dream up your own. A look at recent NHRA practices would be helpful if you're stuck with running at NHRA strips, or any other applicable rules sets for your area. Also, you can post up your ideas right here for discussion by those who've done it (and a few who haven't as well ). In addition, you may want to start your own "build thread" here. Just include the words "HA/GR" (or "SDRA") and "build thread" in your ***le for easy searching reference later. Example; Rapid Rabbit #112 Build Thread. When you start gathering a parts pile, pictures are welcome. They help with kibbitzing, and are fun to look at. Lastly, don't be shy about contacting others in your area that have experience. There's always someone, and it makes a build more fun to share it.
If you must run at tracks that are strict about NHRA rules, by all means get a rule book. I built my frame to meet the 10:00 second and slower Altered regulations. There are diagrams and charts specifying tube sizes, wall thickness and tube placement. Lots of other requirements too.
wow thanks for the help so far and yes just as the parts roll in ill post pics and a build thread my track i run at is not nhra bound but safety is first . just a little bit about me ive started racing in 1996 and i now drag 66 buick special thanks agian
