Have the upholstery shop make one from scratch, it'll fit better and look better. Some plywood and good quality foam shaped and covered to match the front seats is how I've done it several times.

The phrase "I've been told" is usually the first step in a disaster hot rod wise.

The Best is to do as Krylon 32 said and have your trimmer build a seat that is right.

The not so best solution might be the third seat out of an early 90's someting Suburban such as this that was sold a while agp in portland They aren't that wide and fold making it nice when two people are on a road trip and you want to stash your travel gear inside the car.

I've got one out of a newer Burb out in my storage that I can try to measure the width on. I need to drag that one out and haul it to the dump because mice got into that storage van.
This Ebay add says the 88 94 Burb third seat is 48 inches wide. eBay item number:266278193785 The pictures might be enough to decide if it might work or "OH hell no".
