I am going to make some new motor mounts for my Comet. They are going to look like this: http://www.totalcontrolproducts.com/support/motormounts_selection.jpg , but better. I need to find the poly bushings. They need to be 2.25" in length. the diameter and bolt size are flexable. I was thinking a 7/16" bolt would be best. Problem is, Energy suspension and PST dont list specs in their catalogs. Anyone have access to this kind of information? I'm guessing leaf springs and control arm bushings are the best place to look, right? Anyone have a source that has specs online? Parts store catalogs didnt have the specs either.
The larger Energy Suspension bushings on the 32's rear 4 bars are 2" long. With 9/16" bolts fwiw. You can get these same bushings with 1/2" bolts which I think are a better choice for motor mount bolts than 7/16", but the 7/16" should work ok. Sounds like you're going to do the two tabs on the frame bit and hang the bushing between them and weld the bushing ring to the motor side mount. I'm sure you've seen the UHMW motor mounts I made. Got a pic if you need one. UHMW is easily obtained in 1" thicknesses and I believe thicker is just about as easy to obtain.
Energy Suspension is right here in SoCal...I have talked to the R&D rep by phone and they have been more than helpful (of course I had already bought one of their kits)...
The phone # for ENERGY SUSPENSION in CA. is 949-361-3935. Ask for customer service dept. They helped me out with a similiar situation re: shock bushings. You mite be able to buy over size bushings with the correct inside dia you want and then turn them down on a lathe. For the bushings ENERGY SUSPENSION did not have I purchased 80A solid round polyurethane stock from MSC Industrial Supply Co. If you have access to a lathe you can then machine your own bushings. msc ALSO sells UHMW Plastic that has already been mentioned as good motor mount material. UHMW Plastic is much less expensive than polyurethane stock. Another supplier of both these materials is http://www.mcmaster.com or just type the words polyurethane or plastic materials in your computer search box and you will get other suppliers.I agree that it sure would be great if these vendors gave dimensions of their products in their catalogs. gOOD LUCK
I just used TCI 4 bar bushings on my coupe, and they have been working great for 7 years now. Made a plate to bolt to motor, welded 2 stainless pipes to it in a triangle shape and welded a 4 bar or panhard type end on it. and on the frame I put two small tabs with holes in them. It was that simple and looks good too.
