here's the deal, 1967 dodge 727 trans in a motorhome, trans was rebuilt, has maybe 50 to 100 miles on it, sat for about 6 years and when i went to clean it up, no reverse...i've check the fluids and linkage, linkage was my first thought as it wants to go forward in neutral also

i'm not too savy with mopars in general, i'm guessing possible a check valve stuck or something? hoping someone has experienced something similar before i yank it out and rebuild a rebuilt transmission....

    thanks in advance fellas

  2. If You Put It In Rev And Give It Throttle Dose It Seem Like Its Under A Load If So The Forward Clutch More Than Likely Stuck On You Can Try And Put It In Neutral With You Standing On The Brakes Smash The Throttle To The Floor Then To Idol A Couple Times In A Row To Breake It Loose This Is A Very Common Thing To Happen With Motorcycle Clutches When Thet Sit Also Later Bill

Most likely you've broken the low/reverse band. Its pretty common thing to happen with those. The trans will still shift 1-3 but manually selected first gear won't be there.

The other possibility is the link that goes between the band and the adjuster has fallen out.

Either one can be seen by removing the pan. Bad news is if the band is broken, you'll have to remove the trans.

  4. You had it in forward, though?

My Dodge did the same thing, it sat all summer then when I went to "fire it up" last winter, it had no reverse. I drove it around for about 20 minutes, got her real warmed up, and reverse came back. Now, about 3rd gear... ;)

  5. Drop the pan and tell us what you see in it.

be a few days before i can drop the pan, i decided to stick a 8 penny nail thru the bone in my index finger so i'm a little limited at the moment.....

looks like what's happening isn't uncommon, i'm leaning towards somethings stuck, it worked fine when it was parked, wasn't like it was broken in use, it just sat for several years waiting to drop out of the dmw system

Reverse band breaks the end off sometimes. Do not pull the trans if it did. NAPA used to sell a flexible band( made out of the same stuff as banding material ) and you can slide it around the drum. You will more than likely have to use a cutoff wheel to slice the old one to get it out.
    Best of luck.

  8. Probally the o-rings around the apply pistons are just stuck. Change the fluid, and try to take it for a little spin. If it doesn't come back, drop the pan and look for a broken low/reverse band. There is also a strut that can fall out if the band adjustment is not right.

well i dropped the pan, and there was nothing visually wrong, changed the fluid and tied running it awhile, still no luck

all 3 forward gears go, neutral also will go forward, reverse has a load but doesn't go forward or reverse, park under a high load will lurch forward

anyways i'll be dropping the tranny out and rebuilding it, sometimes the "quick" fix takes 10 times longer than the "long" way....

  10. Sounds like the low band is sticking if its going forward in neutral. This will lock up the transmission like you have a trans brake.
