He upped the price after he got it out, I'd lower my offer. That's the way I work, you raise, I find all sorts of stuff that needs replacing and fixing to make you think about it, then I offer less. Doesn't always work, but many times it does.

One thing to keep in mind is parts availability. Chevy parts will be easier to find and cheaper than Olds. While it looks solid, how is the brake system, fuel system, steering? Stock parts might be hard to find, and expen$ive.

    Since it's a four door, I wouldn't give over $1500 running and drivable, but I'm cheap. :D

Matt, I'm here in Pottstown as well. I'd be willing to go with you to check it out if that helps. I also have a good 371 Olds motor in storage that i'd be willing to sell/trade you cheap if you need it.

The rear bumper ends on these like to fill up with dirt and rot out, and they are very, very difficult to find in useable condition. I would definitely give them a good looking over.

If he gets it running, the trans works, and it has a clean ***le, I don't doubt for a second that someone would pay $4K for that car. Maybe more with a couple hard weekends of detailing.

Seems the seller left a pic of the lower rear fender, front rocker out, see what kind of shape these are in. $3K running as others have said, let him list it elsewhere and see if he doesn't call you back. 4 doors are a more difficult sell.

Not running i would only pay 1500 for that car. Running not driving, 2000. Running and driving 2500 to 3000 depending on everything else.

An easy $6k running and driving on my planet but the fact he's raised the price just means there has been more interest than expected. I'd stick to your very fair offer,,show up cash in hand,,see if any of the relatives IOU's can trump that...It's a very nice car and I am never concerned about mechanical issues,,they are less time consuming to repair than body work.

4 grand is too much for a rusty, nobody knows why it got parked 4 door. 4 grand is the price for a nice, running 4 door. Maybe. But, I would p*** unless you can score it for $1500, or so. And, I am an Olds guy.

    Just my opinion, of course.

Get it before that wheel falls off the shelf and puts a dent in the door.

The market is changing with more collections as well as single cars becoming available due to owners aging.
With some deep digging research a 2 dr can be found in driving condition for the same $3-4K

  12. Sold one just like that about 5 years ago, was in a building since 1965. Low miles, decent condition, 4 door, Super 88, loaded. Didn't run. Silver exterior with a silver/white interior. Wasn't moused out our anything. Tornado came through and ripped half the building down so they pulled the car outside and dismantled the rest of the building. Car only sat outside for like a year or so. Picked it up for $50! Sold it to a guy in Sweden for $4000!

Thanks for all the input guys! After talking to Paul about it and some suggestions here I came back and he did get it running and moving under its own power but was still playing a fishy price game, then said he was going to put it on ebay. I told him to put it up there and I'll bid to what I want to pay.. then came back a day later wanting to trade an OT car I have for sale for $8k.. not interested in playing games and p***ed. They just seem really hard to find in usable shape in my part of the world so I was excited to see one sorta local... as suggested I'm gonna keep the $3-4k in my pocked and keep looking for a 2 door.

Thanks again all, I'll let you guys know if he does come back later to offer it if something changes.

Smart move to leave it be - let one of the relatives buy it and I can almost guarantee it'll be up for sale for less than $3K once they find out they are in over their head .... like others have said, there are better cars out there for less and you really want a 2-dr it seems anyway ....

Your friend seems like a real piece of work, yanking you around like that. I just checked eBay and it's not on there. When he comes back, lower your price to $2,000. And I am pretty sure he will be coming back.

I actually like some 4 doors, but in general they're money pits. By the time you got new tires, did a full tune-up, brakes and maybe had the ****** looked at, you'd have far more into it than it'd be worth to the next guy.

If you go the same route with a 2-door you might even make a couple bucks for your time when you sell it... Good luck.

I personally would not do this, and probably should not suggest it, but if he does put it on ebay, a few folks should run the bid up to about ~$10K, then not pay.....
It would serve him right.... :)
